Appointment-driven, mass-audience, PVR-proof hits, every night of the week. CTV announced today it is moving DANCING WITH THE STARS, THE VOICE (Tuesdays), THE X FACTOR, AMERICAN IDOL, and UNDERCOVER BOSS to CTV Two to create a unique, complementary new schedule for its companion network. With the acquisition of two new comedy strips, the revitalized lineup takes CTV Two in a completely new direction and immediately strengthens its schedule as Canada’s primetime home of unscripted and comedy programming. The CTV Two schedule will be presented by Phil King, President, CTV Programming and Sports, at the #CTVUpfront presentation today in Toronto.
“Viewers will truly know what they are getting on CTV Two,” said King. “This is the strongest schedule yet for CTV Two, and as a result, we predict the network’s highest-ratings ever.”
Creating a distinct personality and identity for CTV Two, the new scheduling strategy sees four Top 20 reality series find exclusive homes in core primetime on CTV Two, featuring DANCING WITH THE STARS (Mondays), THE VOICE (Tuesdays), THE X FACTOR (Wednesdays and Thursdays), and in mid-season, AMERICAN IDOL, all in simulcast. On Fridays, CTV Two will feature both UNDERCOVER BOSS and SHARK TANK, both in simulcast. Overall, CTV Two will feature 13 hours of simulcast each week.
The scheduling strategy also extends to new comedy programming on CTV Two. CTV announced today it has acquired the syndication rights to hit series MIKE & MOLLY and HOT IN CLEVELAND, two exclusive strip comedies coming to Canada one year before the rest of the world. Meanwhile, an additional airing of THE BIG BANG THEORY strip will now also air on CTV Two.
The new CTV Two schedule complements that of its sister network CTV. Viewers can watch encore episodes of THE BIG BANG THEORY on CTV Two at7 p.m., delivering audience momentum from Canada’s most-watched program into primetime on CTV Two. Later in the evening, the MIKE & MOLLY and HOT IN CLEVELAND strips provide comedic counter-programming to 10 p.m. dramas on other networks. Additional comedies on CTV Two include Canada’s #1 new comedy series ANGER MANAGEMENT, and new CTV Original Comedy SATISFACTION.
The CTV Two schedule will continue to feature drama programming, and is strengthened by the addition of Top 20 hit CASTLE, which will anchor Mondays at 10 p.m. Also coming to CTV Two are encore broadcasts of MuchMusic’s new younger-skewing historical drama REIGN, Thursdays at 9 p.m., as well as THE VAMPIRE DIARIES.
