Canada’s Win over Finland at the World Juniors Attracts 2.5 Million Viewers on TSN and RDS

Team Canada’s decisive victory over defending gold medallists Finland at the World Juniors attracted major audiences on Monday night, as preliminary overnight data confirms an average audience of 2.5 million viewers tuned in to TSN (2.24 million) and RDS2 (230,000). Team Canada’s 2015 IIHF World Junior Championshipgames have all ranked as the most-watched program of the day on Canadian television in all key demographics – elevating TSN to the #1 network in Canada on all three days Team Canada has played, ahead of all conventional networks.

Overall, 6.4 million unique Canadian viewers tuned in to watch Team Canada’s 4-1 win over Finland. Audience levels peaked at 10:12 p.m. ET with 4 million viewers as Team Canada clinched the victory in the third period.

To date, 12.6 million Canadians have tuned in to watch some or all of TSN and RDS’s wall-to-wall coverage of the 2015 IIHF WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP in Montréal and Toronto.

World Juniors Audience Snapshot: December 26-29

  • 3 million viewers tuned in to TSN (2.5 million) and RDS (554,000) to watch Team Canada’s 8-0 defeat over Slovakia on Boxing Day
  • The Canada-Germany matchup on Saturday attracted an average audience of 2.62 million viewers on TSN (2.1 million) and RDS (549,000)
  • 1 million viewers watched the Finland-USA Boxing Day game on TSN and RDS – ranking as the most-watched non-Canada preliminary round game on record
  • On Twitter, various World Juniors-related hashtags have been trending across Canada throughout the tournament, including TSN and Hockey Canada’s official World Juniors hashtags #HereWeGo and #2015WJC

TSN and RDS’s 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship coverage continues today (Friday, Dec. 31) at 3:30 p.m. ET on TSN and 4 p.m. ET on RDS as Team Canada takes on the United States with first place in Group A on the line.
