In response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti, CTV, MuchMusic and MTV bring Canadian viewers HOPE FOR HAITI, a special live, two-hour, commercial-free earthquake relief telethon on Friday, Jan. 22 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT. Hosted by George Clooney in Los Angeles, Wyclef Jean in New York City and CNN’s Anderson Cooper in Haiti, HOPE IN HAITI features musical performances and celebrity appearances to be announced in the coming days, along with live news reports from CNN.
“This is apocalypse,” Jean said about the destruction in his home country. “We spent the day picking up dead bodies, all day that’s what we did. There’s so much bodies in the streets that the morgues are filled up, the cemeteries are filled up.”
All donations from the event will directly benefit Oxfam America, Partners in Health, the Red Cross, UNICEF and Wyclef’s Yele Haiti Foundation.
To help now, visit CTV.ca’s Help Haiti page for information and links to aid organizations currently assisting the crisis.
Facebook and MySpace have also signed on as official social media partners to help drive donations and tune-in to the telethon.
HOPE FOR HAITI will be produced by Joel Gallen, Tenth Planet Productions, in collaboration with MTV Networks and George Clooney.
