The GRAMMY Awards® Return to City

City today announced it has secured a three-year deal for exclusive Canadian broadcast rights to the GRAMMY Awards®, which includes both the live awards ceremony and The GRAMMY® Nomination Concert Live event.  The announcement was made today as part of Rogers Medias 2013 Upfront presentation.

Honouring music’s most popular and accomplished artists, the 56th Annual GRAMMY Awards will broadcast from the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles and air live on City onSunday, Jan. 26, 2014 at 8 p.m. ET.

The agreement, which runs through 2016, sees the GRAMMY Awards return to City after 19years.  City previously televised the GRAMMY Awards in 1994 and 1995.

“As the premier international music industry event, the GRAMMY Awards is the perfect complement to our young and dynamic programming lineup,” said Scott Moore, President of Broadcast, Rogers Media.  “Award shows have never been more popular and continue to drive mass-audience appointment viewing.  As industry leaders in multiplatform coverage, combined with the strength of our radio and music assets, Rogers Media will offer a world-class fan experience to our audiences.”

From the announcement of the 2014 nominees to the wrap-up of Music’s Biggest Night®, Rogers Media’s suite of world-class assets will deliver an all-access pass to fans with extensive multiplatform coverage.  Harnessing the power of Canada’s top news and entertainment brands – Breakfast Television, 98.1 CHFI, 680News, HELLO! Canada, Chatelaine, Cityline, and Maclean’s  – Rogers Media will bring the GRAMMY’s closer to Canadian audiences than ever before through content and experiences that give viewers the ability to interact, engage and consume content on multiple platforms and devices.

“We’re thrilled about our new partnership with Rogers Media to broadcast our annual GRAMMY Awards telecast live on City in Canada for the next three years,” said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy.  “City’s youthful and culturally savvy audience is appropriate for the GRAMMYs, and we’re really looking forward to collaborating on new, innovative and integrated ways to bring Music’s Biggest Night to more and more Canadians than ever before.”

“Returning to City after almost 20 years, the GRAMMY Awards will be well-served by the dynamic mix of radio, print, mobile and television assets that Rogers will bring to what we feel will be an extraordinarily successful era for the Canadian broadcast of ‘Music’s Biggest Night,’” said Alfred Haber, President, Alfred Haber, Inc.

Bringing together thousands of music industry creative and technical professionals from all over the world, the GRAMMY Awards are the recording industry’s most prestigious honour. Presented annually by The Recording Academy®, the GRAMMY Awards recognize excellence in the recording arts and sciences. The transaction was negotiated by Alfred Haber, Inc., international distributor of the GRAMMY Awards, in association with The Recording Academy.
