Phil King Appointed President of Sports and Executive Vice-President of Programming, CTV Inc.

CTV Inc. announced last week that Phil King has been appointed President of Sports and Executive Vice-President of Programming, CTV Inc., effective immediately.

“Phil has built an amazing organization at TSN and has proven himself as a first-rate leader,” said Ivan Fecan, President and Chief Executive Officer, CTVglobemedia, and Chief Executive Officer, CTV Inc.

“I am extremely honoured and grateful for this incredible opportunity to work closely with Ivan and the best television team in this country,” said King.

In his capacity as President of Sports, King will report to Fecan and sit on CTV’s Senior Management Committee. All of CTV’s sports interests, including TSN, RDS, TSN2, RIS Info Sports, NHL Network and ESPN Classic, will report through King. Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium will report through King to Fecan.

In his capacity as Executive Vice-President of Programming, King will report to Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc., as her second-in-command.

“I’m delighted to welcome Phil to the team,” said Boyce. “As an astute television executive and an accomplished leader, Phil is universally respected. From sports to music to comedy and more, he’s passionate about media. Phil’s magic touch at TSN provides a fresh perspective across all of our specialty and conventional properties. Phil is a perfect fit.”

“Susanne’s the best in the business,” said King. “I couldn’t have a better mentor in this aspect of my new position.”

Rick Brace will realign his focus and concentrate exclusively on the company’s revenue as President of Revenue and Business Planning, CTV Inc. Brace will support King through the transition. Brace remains Chairman of the Board of CTV Specialty Television Inc. and will stay involved with the Olympic Games as a senior advisor.

“Phil’s new role as President of Sports recognizes his numerous achievements to our sports business and the incredible team that he has built,” said Brace. “The time is right for me to step aside and allow Phil to take the reins as part of a natural succession ensuring the continued success of our organization. I am delighted with his announcement and offer my full support throughout the transition.”

“I’ve spent nearly 22 years at TSN, and I would like to thank Rick Brace for not only being my boss, mentor and friend over most of my career, but also for allowing me to grow into the numerous roles he has given me over the years,” said King.

King will announce succession plans at TSN and Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium next week.

Formerly President of TSN, King and his team grew TSN from a niche specialty broadcaster to a fully integrated multimedia sports company which includes specialty networks TSN2, NHL Network and ESPN Classic, along with Canada’s leading sports website, TSN.ca, TSN MOBILE, TSN Events, and the operation of NASCAR Canada.

King joined TSN in 1989 as Audit Manager and quickly advanced to Manager of Program Administration, Director of Programming, and Senior Vice-President of Programming. He was appointed President in 2004. King graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a BA in Administration and Commercial Studies and Economics. He received his CA designation in 1984.
