Showcase Brings The Funny This Summer With ALMOST HEROES and SINGLE WHITE SPENNY

While other channels play repeats,Showcase keeps viewers laughing all summer long with a lineup of hysterical new Canadian original series and returning hit comedies. From two brothers struggling to run a family business to a man-child haplessly searching for love in all the wrong places, the Showcase comedy lineup is guaranteed to tickle any funny bone beginning at 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2011.

Kicking off the summer comedy lineup, Almost Heroes follows Terry (Paul Campbell; Battlestar Galalctica, Knight Rider) who returns home after hearing of his father’s death to help his younger brother Peter (Ryan Belleville; Finn on the Fly, Life on a Stick) tie up loose ends and hopefully, sell the family business: a comic book store called the Silver Salmon. He arrives to find the store in financial ruin and his brother incapable of making any decision other than which super power he wished he had. The brothers put their differences aside to revive the business along with the help of the mall security guard Boyd (Colin Mochrie; The Kids in the Hall: Death Comes To Town, Who’s Line is it Anyway), childhood friend Bernie (Lauren Ash; Howie Do It, Lars and The Real Girl) and property manager Rayna (Athena Karkanis; The Border, The Best Years). Created and executive produced by brothers Ryan and Jason Belleville and executive produced by Noreen Halpern and Rachel Fulford of Entertainment One, Almost Heroespremieres Thursday, June 2 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Replacing his search for dignity with a search for true love, Canadian comedy favourite Spenny (Spencer Rice; Kenny vs Spenny) returns to Showcase with Single White Spenny, a comedy of relationship errors where he struggles to find love, be loved, get love, rent love, buy love, steal love, melt love and sell love. From trying his hand at an open relationship to seeking motherly love that was lacking from his real Mom, Spenny navigates single life with an ineptitude all his own. Aided by best friend Chelsea (Amy Matysio; Corner Gas), employee Jessica (Nikki Payne; Video on Trial, Last Comic Standing), hindered by his lurking neighbour, Phil (Wayne Thomas Yorke Meet the Fockers, Wingin’ It) and largely ignored by his egocentric mother (Deb McGrath; Little Mosque on the Prairie), Spenny demonstrates exactly what not to do when on the hunt for a life partner. Executive produced by Ira Levy and Peter Williamson of Breakthrough Entertainment and developed by executive producers Howard Busgang and Tom Nursall, Single White Spenny premieresThursday, June 2 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT.

Bringing laughs from south of the border is the hit series from Seinfeld creator Larry David, Curb Your Enthusiasm. In season seven, Larry attempts to reunite the cast of Seinfeld for a reunion show and tries to convince wife Cheryl to take him back. Curb Your Enthusiasm premieres Thursday, June 2 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Capping off the Thursday comedy lineup is South Philly’s favourite “gang” on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. In season six of the series, Mac tries to prevent Carmen from getting married and Sweet Dee reveals she’s pregnant, but won’t say who the father is. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia premieres Thursday, June 2 at 10: 30 p.m. ET/PT.
