In another feel-good moment from the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, Canadian speed skater Gilmore Junio gave up his spot in the Men’s 1,000m event in order to allow his teammate Denny Morrison to vie for a medal. Morrison made good on the opportunity, bringing home a silver medal.
Canada’s Women’s Ice Hockey team scored a big win in round robin play with a 3-2 victory over a strong American team. With the win, Canada remains undefeated.

ALPINE SKIING: LADIES DOWNHILL FINAL
- In an Olympic Ladies’ Downhill first, Slovenia’s Tina Maze and Switzerland’s Dominique Gisin tied for the gold medal with a time of 1:41.57, while Gisin’s Swiss teammate Lara Gut took the bronze. Canada’s Larisa Yurkiw finished the event in 20th place.
SNOWBOARD: LADIES’ HALFPIPE
- Kaitlyn Farrington of the USA claimed the gold, edging Australia’s silver medallist Torah Bright by 0.25 points. American Kelly Clark took home the bronze.
WOMEN’S CURLING: CANADA VS. GREAT BRITAIN
- Canada stretched its unbeaten record to 3-0 with 9-6 victory over Great Britain. Canada has scored nine points in each of its victories thus far.
WOMEN’S ICE HOCKEY: CANADA VS. USA
- Following a late goal from the Americans, Canada held on for a thrilling 3-2 victory to remain unbeaten in the round robin.
SPEED SKATING: MEN’S 1,000M
- Canada’s Denny Morrison won the silver medal despite not initially being named to Canada’s roster for the race after falling during the Canadian Olympic team trials. Morrison’s teammate Gilmore Junio gave up his spot in the event to allow Morrison to compete saying he believed the decision was in the best interest of the team.
LUGE: DOUBLES
- Canadians Justin Snith and Tristan Walker finished just out of the medals in fourth place, a mere 0.05 seconds behind the bronze medal winners, Juris and Andris Sics of Latvia. Germany’s Tobias Arlt and Tobias Wendl won the gold medal while Austrian brothers Wolfgang and Andreas Linger took home the silver.
MEN’S CURLING: RUSSIA VS. CANADA (10 a.m. – 1 p.m. ET) on TSN2
- Following back-to-back losses, Canada rebounded against Russia with a big 7-4 win to improve to 2-2 in the round robin.
FIGURE SKATING: PAIRS FREE PROGRAM
- Canada’s top Figure Skating Pairs’ duos of Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford and Kirsten Moore-Towers and Dylan Moscovitch finish in fifth and seventh place, respectively. Russia’s Tatiana Voloszhar and Maxim Trankov won the gold medal while their Russian teammates Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov took the silver. Germany’s Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy repeated as Olympic bronze medallists.
