The Queen, along with Olympic medallist Joannie Rochette, Academy Award-nominee Christopher Plummer and Canadian musical icons Barenaked Ladies, joins Canadians to celebrate Canada’s 143rd birthday in Ottawa, Thursday, July 1. Canadians can turn to CBC for comprehensive coverage of the day’s events.
CANADA DAY NOON SHOW – Exclusive to CBC
CBC News chief correspondent Peter Mansbridge and Heather Hiscox bring Canadians the festivities from Ottawa, while Reshmi Nair has a live interview with Prime Minister Stephen Harper. CBC audiences will have an intimate view of all the action as the Queen and Prince Philip are given an official welcome, including a dazzling flyby from the Snowbirds. To kick off the party, the Queen, along with the Prime Minister and Joannie Rochette, will address the crowd. Christopher Plummer and CBC Sports’ Ron Maclean then take Canadians through a stellar lineup of musical performances from Barenaked Ladies, the Montreal Jubilation Choir, Johnny Reid, the Campbell Brothers and more.

The party on the hill continues well into the evening with a star-studded concert featuring performances by Barenaked Ladies, Isabelle Boulay, Johnny Reid, Marjo, Michael Kaeshammer and Dione Taylor. CANADA ROCKS THE CAPITAL will air on CBC Television and Radio-Canada beginning at 9 p.m. (Quebec-West), 11 p.m. AT and 11:30 p.m. NT. It will air on bold at 9 p.m. ET. CBC Radio One presents a full day of Canada Day-related programming.
· Sing For Your Song, 6 a.m. (6:30 NT) – A collage of favourite Canadian songs, compiled from singing requests of listeners.
· Q, 10 a.m. (10:30 NT) – Host Jian Ghomeshi treats listeners to an all-Canadian “best of” show featuring some of the best debates, interviews and music.
· Canada Day Song Circle, 12 p.m. (12:30 NT) on Radio One and 6 p.m. on Radio 2 – CBC Radio’s Amanda Putz hosts the annual Major Hill’s Park noon-hour song circle, one of Ottawa’s hottest musical tickets, featuring k-os (Ont.), Malajube’s lead singer Julien, in a rare solo appearance (Que.), Digwolf (N.W.T.) and Amelia Curran (Nfld.).
· The Canada Game, 4 p.m. (4:30 NT) – Simi Sara hosts a trivia show, quizzing contestants on Canadian geography, history and more.

CBC RADIO 2
CBC Radio 2 celebrates Canada Day by presenting the 24 Hour Canadian Music Shakedown, 24 hours of the best music made in Canada today. And to make the day extra-special, CBC has commissioned the heaviest and highest instrument in the land to ring out a celebration of Canadian Music. The mighty bells of Ottawa’s Peace Tower Carillon will become ours, for one very special song. Through the Canada Day Carillon Contest, listeners gave Radio 2 Drive their pick of a Canadian song to ring out from Ottawa’s Peace Tower Carillon on Canada Day. Tune in at 5 p.m. to find out which song prevailed. Then at 6 p.m., listen for a re-broadcast of the Canada Day Song Circle, followed by a special edition of Canada Live: Live from the Capital, at 7 p.m. (7:30 NT).
