CBC Sports To Bring Canadians All Of The Action From The 2022 World Athletics Championships, July 15-24

CBC Sports will be the exclusive Canadian home for all of the high-intensity track and field competitions at the 2022 World Athletics Championships, taking place in Eugene, Oregon, USA, from Friday, July 15 through Sunday, July 24. Viewers can watch the live events streaming on cbcsports.ca, the CBC Sports App for iOS and Android devices, and CBC Gem, with extensive broadcast coverage on CBC TV and CBC Gem as part of CBC Sports weekend programming throughout the competition. For full broadcast and streaming schedules, visit cbcsports.ca. The 18th edition of the championships – and the first to be held in the USA – brings together the world’s best athletes to compete in 16 stadium sessions and six road events at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon, recently renovated and considered to be one of the top track and field facilities in the world.

CBC Sports will broadcast a live daily primetime show available on CBC Gem (check schedule here) throughout the 10-day competition, with coverage of the day’s events. The broadcast team helping to bring the excitement of the competition to audiences across Canada includes: CBC Sports host Andi Petrillo; award-winning play-by-play commentator Mark Lee; Olympian Kate Van Buskirk; Olympian and two-time Commonwealth Games decathlon champion Michael Smith; CBC Sports’ Scott Russell trackside in Oregon; and Olympian and World Champion hurdler Perdita Felicien contributing to the weekend primetime shows for CBC Gem. Petrillo and Felicien will also co-host CBC Sports’ regular weekend afternoon broadcast coverage on CBC TV.

A daily 30-minute digital show, CBC SPORTS LIVE, will precede the CBC Gem primetime show, and will be available live on cbcsports.ca, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and CBC Gem. Hosted by Olympian Anastasia Bucsis, the digital series will include discussion of the day’s events, analysis of the results, and preview future competitions. Bucsis will be joined daily by CBC Sports reporter Devin Heroux, who will be on the ground in Eugene, Oregon, providing regular updates for cbcsports.ca.

A team of 59 athletes (34 women and 25 men) with a combined total of 15 Olympic medals, will be representing Canada at the 2022 World Athletics Championships. The last edition took place in Doha, Qatar in fall 2019 where Team Canada took home five medals. All of the 2019 medalists will represent Canada once again in Eugene, Oregon, including Andre De Grasse, Mohammed Ahmed, Evan Dunfee and Damian Warner. Other competitors include: 2022 Canadian champion in the 100m and 200m Aaron Brown; 2018 Commonwealth Games pole vaulting champion Alysha Newman; Canadian record holder, and third-ranked shot putter in the world, Sarah Mitton; and 2018 World Athletics Championships gold medalist in hammer throw, Camryn Rogers.  For the latest news from the world of track and field, visit cbcsports.ca.
