CBC Sports’ Coverage Of Championship Show Jumping From Spruce Meadows Begins This Weekend

CBC Sports will kick off the show jumping season this weekend with coverage of two events from Spruce Meadows, one of the world’s top venues for international equestrian events. With qualifications for the Pan American Games 2019 Lima and the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 at stake, CBC Sports will carry a full slate of championship show jumping coverage throughout the season, with broadcasts on CBC and the CBC Gem streaming service, and live streams on cbcsports.ca, CBC Gem and via the CBC Sports app for iOS and Android devices. CBC Sports continues to bring Canadians the biggest moments from the ring as Spruce Meadow’s broadcast partner of more than a quarter century.

CBC Sports’ broadcast coverage begins with ‘The National’ presented by Rolex, including the RBC Grand Prix of Canada presented by Rolex on Saturday, June 8 at 4 p.m. ET (1 p.m. PT) and the ATCO Classic on Sunday, June 9 at 2 p.m./ 3 p.m. AT (3:30 NT). Coverage of the CNOOC Nexen Cup will also be available on Sunday, June 9 at 4:15 p.m. ET (1:15 p.m. PT) via live stream on cbcsports.ca, CBC Gem, and via the CBC Sports app, and broadcast on CBC and CBC Gem the following Saturday, June 15 at 3 p.m. ET (12 p.m. PT).

CBC Sports’ broadcast team for the 2019 season includes host and play-by-play commentator Scott Russell, analyst Deanna Phelan, reporter Brenda Irving, and Ian Allison as field-level reporter, providing additional insights into the course, jumps, and horse and rider pairs.

Following the retirement of 10-time Olympian Ian Millar, Canadian riders looking to take the reins at this season’s competitions include Olympians Tiffany Foster, Mario Deslauriers and Lisa Carlsen. CBC Sports will be covering the journey of Olympic Games gold medallist Eric Lamaze, who recently revealed that he has been battling a brain tumour for over a year, but will continue to ride his top horse, Fine Lady Five. Other notable international riders include Olympic Games medallists Kent Farrington, McLain Ward and Beezie Madden of the United States, Conor Swail of Ireland, Patricio Pasquel representing Mexico, and Karen Polle representing Japan.

Following this weekend’s coverage, CBC Sports will bring Canadians more marquee events from Spruce Meadows throughout the season, including ‘The North American’ (July 6—7) and ‘The Masters’ (September 7—8) tournaments. CBC Sports will also cover events from the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping in Aachen, Germany on July 21 and Geneva, Switzerland on December 14, in addition to the CP International Grand Prix at Spruce Meadows on September 8 as part of the Rolex Grand Slam.

CBC Sports will continue to be home to the world’s best championship show jumping competitions through the 2020 season. Viewers can follow CBC Sports’ coverage of Spruce Meadows at cbcsports.ca.
