CBC’s Coverage of FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013 Starts Tomorrow

As Canada’s official broadcaster for FIFA events, CBC is home to the beautiful game this month with live coverage of FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013 from June 15-30 on CBC-TV andCBCSports.ca. This eight-team tournament, a precursor to 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ on CBC, features the reigning champions of the six FIFA confederations as well as the reigning FIFA World Cup champions and the host nation competing in a round-robin format. CBC’s coverage includes round-robin games as well as the championship and third place games live on Sunday, June 30.

FifaConfederationBrazil2013The FIFA Confederations Cup is one of just three “nation vs. nation” soccer tournaments, along with the FIFA World Cup™ and the Olympics, all of which air on CBC as the official broadcaster and  Canadian home of FIFA action. With five of the top 25-ranked teams in the world competing and two participating teams having already secured their place at next year’s 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™, this tournament offers Canadian fans a glimpse of the action they’ll see when the greatest soccer nations go head-to-head to determine the world’s best on CBC next summer.

Scott Russell (@SportsWkndScott) hosts CBC’s coverage of FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013 in-studio alongside former Women’s National Team member and Olympian Clare Rustad and former Men’s National Team member and long-time Premier League goalkeeper Craig Forrest (@craigforrest1) joining the team as analysts and Brenda Irving (@BrendaCBCSports) in Brazil providing on-site reports.

Two-time defending champion Brazil looks to become the first country to win three consecutive Confederations Cup trophies while building momentum towards next year’s 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™, when they’ll once again host the world’s soccer elite. Joining Brazil in Group A are AFC Asian Cup champion Japan, CONCACAF Gold Cup winner Mexico and UEFA EURO 2012 finalist Italy. Group B features reigning UEFA EURO champion and FIFA World Cup champion Spain, along with CONMEBOL Copa America champion Uruguay, OFC Nations Cup winner Tahiti and CAF Africa Cup of Nations champion Nigeria.

Action gets underway on CBC tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. ET (11:30 a.m. PT) with Brazil vs. Japan, followed on Sunday by Mexico vs. Italy at 2:30 p.m. ET (11:30 a.m. PT) and Spain vs. Uruguay at 5:30 p.m. ET (2:30 p.m. PT). Every match of the FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013 is available live online at CBCSports.ca. As a sub-licensee for FIFA, Sportsnet World will also have coverage of the tournament with encore game presentations later in the day as well as select live matches. Full tournament and broadcast schedules are available online at cbc.ca/fifaconfederationscup andsportsnet.ca/schedule.

In addition to game coverage, CBC will broadcast an hour-long documentary on the history of the FIFA Confederations Cup on Sunday, June 30 at 4:30 p.m. ET (1:30 p.m. PT) leading into coverage of the championship match.
