Commotion With Elamin Abdelmahmoud Launches Monday on CBC Radio One and CBC Listen

COMMOTION WITH ELAMIN ABDELMAHMOUD, a new, lively and topical radio show focused on arts and culture trends, debuts Monday, January 30, broadcasting weekdays at 11 a.m. (11:30 NT) on CBC Radio One and CBC Listen. Hosted by Elamin Abdelmahmoud and featuring a range of panelists, artists, experts and superfans each day, the live, 30-minute show presents hot takes, funny anecdotes and thoughtful analysis on the latest arts and culture moments.

“I find that conversations about art and pop culture bring people closer to each other,” said Elamin Abdelmahmoud. “Talking about a new show that you’re excited about, or a big culture idea you’re seeing everywhere lately, that’s the connective tissue between all of us. On Commotion, what you get every single day is a crowded table of insightful and hilarious people talking about something that moves them and lights them up.”

With topics spanning Canadian and international music, film, art, television and style, award show moments, major anniversaries and milestones, internet culture and more, COMMOTION WITH ELAMIN ABDELMAHMOUD provides insightful discussion around the impact of arts, entertainment and pop culture in its various forms. Included in the debut show on Monday, January 30, listeners will be the first to hear the announcement of the JUNO Award Rap Album/EP of the Year nominees, exclusively on COMMOTION, with a panel of music journalists joining Elamin Abdelmahmoud later that week to discuss the 2023 JUNO nominees. Each Friday, COMMOTION will feature a dynamic wrap panel with the biggest stories from the world of arts and pop culture.

Well-known across the realm of entertainment, arts and pop culture analysis, host Elamin Abdelmahmoud’s work has appeared in BuzzFeed News, Globe and Mail, Maclean’s, Rolling Stone and more, and he has hosted CBC podcast series Popchat and Party Lines.  Elamin Abdelmahmoud is the author of Son of Elsewhere: A Memoir in Pieces, a number one national bestseller, a Globe 100 book, and a New York Times notable book.
