Must-See NHL Games Highlight CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada 2013-14 Broadcast Schedule

CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA returns for the 2013-14 NHL season with a full slate of games featuring the sport’s biggest stars and the best NHL match-ups and marquee events all season long and into the playoffs, including exclusive coverage of the Stanley Cup Final.  The new hockey season begins on CBC with NHL Face-Off from Montreal on Tuesday, October 1, as the Canadiens host their longtime rivals, the Toronto Maple Leafs. A host of other high-profile events are included on CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA schedule in addition to the iconic Saturday night broadcasts, including coverage of several outdoor games.

“With a schedule that includes so many big games and classic match-ups, we can hardly wait to drop the puck on the 2013-14 NHL season,” said Neil McEneaney, interim executive vice-president, CBC English Services. “We’re proud to share Canada’s game with the passionate fans and families who have made Hockey Night in Canada a Saturday night tradition and we’re excited to join our viewers again in their homes from coast-to-coast-to-coast giving them the best seat in the house for the NHL’s biggest games all season long.”

Major NHL events on CBC this year include the 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic which sees the Toronto Maple Leafs take on the Detroit Red Wings from Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, MI, on Wednesday, January 1, 2014, and the 2014 Tim Hortons Heritage Classic on Sunday, March 2 as the Vancouver Canucks play host to the Ottawa Senators at GM Place. “Coming off of such an exciting hockey season, we’re very much looking forward to continuing that momentum with a full season of NHL games on CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada,” said Jeffrey Orridge, executive director of sports properties and general manager, Olympics, CBC. “For 60 years and counting CBC has been Canada’s home to the biggest and best games the NHL has to offer and we’re proud to continue that tradition with the upcoming season, providing new viewers and loyal fans with the world-class coverage synonymous with Hockey Night in Canada.”

Other important dates on the HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA calendar in the 2013-14 season include the return of Kraft Hockeyville and Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada.
