Myth-Busting Documentary Exposes The Real T.Rex

Tyrannosaurus rex is the most terrifying predator to have ever stalked the planet. But have we misunderstood this bloodthirsty giant? Was T.rex more than just a lumbering lizard, and instead a sophisticated and complex creature? Find out on CBC’s The Nature of Things with David Suzuki: The Real T.Rex, premiering Sunday, October 21 at 8 p.m. (8:30 NT), as we explore the many mysteries surrounding this prehistoric titan, and in the process debunk outdated myths to completely transform our understanding of this infamous predator. The documentary will also be available to watch Friday, October 19 from 5 p.m. ET on the CBC TV streaming app and cbc.ca/watch.

Meeting with experts around the globe, the cutting-edge documentary takes viewers on an investigative journey through the Badlands of Alberta with renowned paleontologist Dr. Philip Currie and across the U.S. to Dinosaur Valley State Park in Texas. We also meet evolutionary biologist and leading paleontologist Dr. Julia Clarke in Berlin, and head to the UK for a mind-blowing interview with biomechanics expert Professor John Hutchinson.

Presenting groundbreaking insights into how T.rex truly looked and sounded, its complex social behaviors, and the bone-crushing power of its mammoth jaws, these scientists finally expose the true beast behind the Hollywood myth. Thanks to some trailblazing technology and featuring exclusive access to ‘Tristan’—one of the most complete Tyrannosaurus rex skeletons in the world—The Real T.Rex ultimately reveals the most accurate CGI representation of this iconic predator ever.

“It’s an ambitious undertaking to bring the king of dinosaurs back to life, but with the use of the latest scientific research and CGI wizardry we’ve been able to reimagine and rebuild this cultural icon,” said Andre Barro, Cineflix. “We’re thrilled that CBC and David Suzuki are presenting this specialist factual documentary to Canadian audiences.”

The Real T.Rex is produced in association with CBC, BBC, France Télévisions (France 5), and Canal D (Canada), and is directed by Mark Everest (Torchwood and Silent Witness). The producers are André Barro for Cineflix and Ruth Roberts for Talesmith. Executive producers are Martin Williams for Talesmith and Glen Salzman for Cineflix.
