Three Bakers Progress To The Finale Following Pie Week on The Great Canadian Baking Show

Chris Koo, 30, a family physician from Edmonton, AB watched his dreams crumble, as he became the seventh baker to leave the THE GREAT CANADIAN BAKING SHOW. Meanwhile, this week’s challenges were easy as pie for Nataliia Shevchenko, 33, who was named Star Baker. Only four bakers remained in the competition for Pie Week and they were expected to excel with their pastry skills in three pie challenges in order to reach the finale. For the Signature Bake, the bakers created a detailed Pastry Pie Face, atop a pie with the pastry and filling of their choice. In the Technical Challenge, they did a take on Pithivier, a beautifully scored and scalloped puff pastry cake filled with frangipane, pastry cream and cherry jam. For the Showstopper, the bakers reached new heights with Tiered Pies; three perfectly baked sweet or savoury pies stacked in a sky-high tower.

As Koo leaves the tent, the final three bakers remain:

●        Colin Asuncion, 30, a marketing manager from Toronto, ON

●        Jodi Robson, 33, a table games dealer from Regina, SK

●        Nataliia Shevchenko, 33, an administrative assistant from Edmonton, AB

The baking culminates in the season finale next Wednesday, November 6 at 8 p.m. (8:30 NT) on CBC and the free CBC Gem streaming service.

Also announced this week, four bakers from previous seasons will return to the tent for the chance to become the first Holiday Star Baker in THE GREAT CANADIAN HOLIDAY BAKING SHOW, a special episode airing Wednesday, November 13 at 8 p.m. (9:30 NT) on CBC and the free CBC Gem streaming service. Hosts Carolyn Taylor and Aurora Browne welcome back Season 1 bakers, James Hoyland and Vandana Jain, and Season 2 bakers Megan Stasiewich and Timothy Fu for three holiday-themed challenges.
