City’s Original Series SEED Picked up by The CW

City and leading independent studio Entertainment One (eOne) confirmed today that Season 1 of the original comedy series Seed has been picked up by The CW Network (The CW) for broadcast in the United States. Commissioned by Claire Freeland, Director of Original Programming, Rogers Media, the deal with the CW for the City original series was made by Carrie Stein, eOne’s EVP, Global Productions.

With production scheduled to begin fall 2013, City has ordered an additional 13 episodes from Vancouver-based Force Four Entertainment. Additional details to be announced at a later date.

“City has always believed in Seed, and the partnership with eOne and The CW is a true testament to the incredibly talented creators, crew, and performers who bring this series to life,” said Claire Freeland. “We’re excited to introduce the hilarious and original stories of this quirky family to American viewers.”

“Seed was one of the first projects I read when I joined eOne a year ago,” said Carrie Stein. “I read the first five scripts in one sitting and thought it was a funny, sophisticated, and high-concept comedy which was sure to attract a U.S. partner. We are thrilled to have The CW on board for this first-rate comedy!”

From the creative team of Joseph Raso (Zombies & Cheerleaders) and award-winning writer/producer Mark Farrell (This Hour Has 22 Minutes, Made in Canada, Corner Gas), Seed tells the story of Harry (Adam Korson), a single, underachieving bachelor/bartender who reluctantly begins a relationship with three unique and separate recipient families – a laid-back lesbian couple with a nine-year-old son, a neurotically hopeful single mom-to-be, and an uptight, upper-class family with a rebellious teenage daughter – with whom he’ll come to share more than just his DNA.

Seed is produced by Force Four Entertainment. The Force Four production team includes Supervising Producer Paula J. Smith (Less Than Kind) and Producer/Line Producer Karen Wentzell (Trailer Park Boys). From Rogers Media, Claire Freeland is director of original programming, Hayden Mindell is director of programming, and Scott Moore is president of broadcast. Entertainment One handles the worldwide media rights and has already successfully sold the series in a number of territories.
