Citytv Welcomes Katie Couric’s Triumphant Return to Daytime Television with New Talk Series Katie, Starting Sept. 10

From morning to night, award-winning journalist Katie Couric has brought trusted news and friendly conversation to millions of viewers. Now, kick starting a new television beginning, Couric premieres her all-new, one-hour daytime talk series Katie to Canadian audiences on Monday, Sept. 10, at 4 p.m. ET/PT on Citytv. With an engaging and compelling format, Katie blends insightful information, stories of the day, and entertainment, with the energy and heart that only Couric can deliver. Reuniting one of television’s most successful partnerships, Katie is executive produced by Couric and longtime colleague Jeff Zucker, and is broadcast in front of a studio audience live from New York City.

Katie’s smart, new approach to daytime talk is the perfect fit for Citytv viewers,” said Malcolm Dunlop, Executive Vice-President of Programming and Operations.  “Katie brings warmth and compassion to daytime in a relatable, trustworthy way. This fresh series is the ideal complement to Citytv’s most acclaimed fall schedule yet.”

Airing Monday to Friday at 4 p.m. ET/PT on Citytv, Katie takes daytime talk forward by tackling a wide range of issues with her authentic and fresh perspective. The one-hour lifestyle and news series sheds light on the issues that matter most, and features thoughtful interviews with newsmakers, celebrities, and everyday people who have extraordinary stories to tell.

In the premiere episode, Katie celebrates women who – like her – are reinventing themselves. Headline-maker and billion-dollar business owner Jessica Simpson will join Couric to discuss juggling her business empire with life as a new mom, and how she dealt with the media scrutiny of her post-baby weight loss. Then, nine-time Grammy Award-winning artist Sheryl Crow, who also wrote and performed the theme song for Katie, will talk about the next chapter of her brilliant career, life as a single mom, and her recently diagnosed brain tumour.

Upcoming episodes will feature a rare television appearance by legendary songstress Barbara Streisand, celebrity interviews with Hollywood megastars Jennifer Lopez, Susan Sarandon, Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum, and Chelsea Handler, as well as the year’s most talked about author, E L James (50 Shades of Grey). In the first weeks of the series, other interview guests include Aimee Copeland, who lost parts of all her limbs to flesh-eating bacteria; singer and actress Demi Lovato who recently struggled with severe eating disorders; and, talk-show personality Wendy Williams. Couric will also sit down with Sharon and Lexie Love, whose daughter and sister, Yeardley, was murdered two years ago by her ex-boyfriend at the University of Virginia; Amanda Knox’s ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito; and research professor and motivational speaker Brené Brown.

Gearing up for the new daytime talk show of the season, 98.1 CHFI and Citytv are teaming up for a “Trip A Day Giveaway” to give four lucky CHFI listeners, and a friend, tickets to a live taping of Katie in New York City. Listeners can tune in to The Erin & Mike Morning Show on 98.1 CHFI from September 4 to 7 to hear their names and call in to win.

In advance of the series premiere, viewers can catch Katie Couric on Cityline, Wednesday, Sept. 5, as she sits down with host Tracy Moore for an intimate “girl chat.” Then, on Thursday, Sept. 6 on Breakfast Television, Couric talks about what viewers can expect from her new series in a personal one-on-one interview with host Kevin Frankish.

Katie Couric is an award-winning journalist and TV personality, well-known cancer advocate, and New York Times best-selling author of The Best Advice I Ever Got: Lessons From Extraordinary Lives. Born in Arlington, Virginia, Couric’s previous television credits include co-anchoring NBC’s Today for 15 years and becoming the first female to anchor a network evening news program, CBS Evening News. She currently lives in New York with her two daughters.
