Maclean’s Great Canadian Countdown Takes a Romp through all Things Canuck in Original City Special

As Canada Day approaches, most of us can agree: This is the greatest nation on earth—but how well do we really know ourselves and this country we call home? Premiering Monday, July 1 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on City, Maclean’s Great Canadian Countdown is on a mission to answer our most burning questions about Canada, and leave us with enough cool new trivia to keep everyone at the cottage, around the campfire or at the Canada Day barbeque entertained and impressed.

JUNE 27th NOTE: The Maclean’s Great Canadian Countdown will NOT air on July 1 as previously announced. Because the lighthearted program featured Calgary prominently, Rogers Media decided that out of respect for Albertans, who are currently dealing with the serious aftermath of unprecedented flooding, the program should not air at this time.

Maclean’s Great Canadian Countdown, hosted by Canadian Seed funnyman Adam Korson, travels across the country, covering categories from food, politics, science to sports and crime. A lineup of high-profile Canadians—including Justin Trudeau, Hayley Wickenheiser, Roberta Bondar and Darryl Sittler—share amusing and irreverent stories about what their country means to them, while opinionated patriots from across the nation weigh in on hot topics like the best places to live (Did your city make the list?) and the province where the most residents have had sex in a canoe (or claim to have).

“Partnering with Maclean’s and bringing the Book of Lists to the screen has resulted in a uniquely entertaining program that will resonate with all Canadians,” said Claire Freeland, Director of Original Programming, Rogers Media. “We’re proud to highlight the dynamic sights, people and facts that our great country has to offer. We’re thrilled with the results.”
“Maclean’s has been having an exciting year, as we expand onto more and more platforms,” said Maclean’s Publisher Penny Hicks. “We have a strong presence on the tablet and smartphone, and have published a stable of ebooks. Now, bringing Maclean’s to television is another great way to connect with our readers on yet another platform.”

City has previously partnered with Rogers Media magazine brands Chatelaine and FLARE for television programsbut Maclean’s Great Canadian Countdown marks the first time Maclean’s and City have teamed up. The special is the latest original program commissioned by Rogers Media, following the successful launch of Seed earlier this year, and including the upcoming premieres of previously announced series Package Deal, The Project, andMother Up! and Storage Wars Canada.
