Bazinga! CTV is Canada’s Most-Watched Network for 10th Straight Year

With the 2010/11 television season now complete, CTV has once again won the season in total viewers and the key advertising demos A25-54, A18-49, and A18-34, it was revealed today. Based on data from BBM Canada through the end of the season last Wednesday, May 25, CTV is Canada’s most-watched network in total viewers and A25-54 for the 10th straight year, solidifying CTV as Canada’s #1 network for the past decade.

CTV marks the milestone with nine out of the Top 10 programs in Canada (total viewers) and seven out of the Top 10 programs for A25-54 and A18-49, all led by Canada’s #1 program, THE BIG BANG THEORY. The only program in Canada to average more than three million viewers each week, THE BIG BANG THEORY is the first comedy since FRASIER (#1) and FRIENDS (#2) in 1998/99 to reign as Canada’s most-watched program overall (see Top 20 chart below).

CTV also ends the season as the only network to show growth in key demos this season over last. CTV leads CBC, Canada’s #2 network for total viewers, by 50% in prime time, with 1.5 million viewers on average each night.

Demonstrating CTV’s strength across the schedule and throughout the week, the network finishes the season with more timeslot wins than all other Canadian networks combined. Of the 21 weekly timeslots in prime time, CTV wins 16 in total viewers, 15 for A18-34, and 14 for A25-54 and A18-49.

Just days before it reveals its new 2011/12 schedule, CTV ends the season with four of the Top 5 new returning programs in total viewers and all key demos, including:

• HOT IN CLEVELAND: Canada’s #1 new program for total viewers, and the #1 new comedy for A25-54 and A18-49.
• THE VOICE: Canada’s #1 new program for A25-54 and A18-49.
• BLUE BLOODS: Canada’s #1 new drama for total viewers.
• MIKE & MOLLY: Canada’s #2 new comedy in total viewers and all key demos.

Finally, CTV also delivers Canada’s most-watched returning programs including:

• GREY’S ANATOMY, Canada’s #1 drama in all key demos and the #2 program overall for A25-54.
• AMERICAN IDOL, Canada’s #1 competition series for total viewers and the #2 program overall.
• THE AMAZING RACE: Canada’s #1 competition series for A18-34 and A18-49, and the #2 program overall for A18-49.
