CTV News Takes Home 13 National RTNDA Awards Including Best Newscast

CTV News, Canada’s most-watched news team, was honoured tonight with 13 awards at the annual Radio Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) National Conference in Edmonton. The awards included Best Newscast for CTV National News, the Charlie Edwards Award for Spot News for CTV News Channel, the Trina McQueen Award for Best Information Program (W5), and the Dave Rogers Award for Best Long Feature (W5). Tonight’s wins bring the total number of national and regional 2009 RTNDA Awards won by CTV News this year to 36, including seven honourable mentions.

“It is extremely gratifying to be recognized by the RTDNA for the hard work and dedication of CTV News teams that serve communities across Canada,” said Robert Hurst, President, CTV News. “We are driven by a commitment to deliver the highest quality news that viewers want, and are delighted that our national and regional news teams have garnered this acknowledgement.”

Also honoured at this year’s RTNDA Awards was Bob McLaughlin, Vice-President and General Manager of Toronto’s CP24. McLaughlin was honoured with the Distinguished Service Award for his exemplary service benefiting both the RTNDA and broadcast journalism in Canada. In addition, CTV Winnipeg’ s Sylvia Kuzyk was recognized for her outstanding contribution to broadcasting with a Prairie Region Lifetime Achievement Award.
