CTV Prime-time is a Cut Above, August 16 – 31

The CTV schedule is packed with new episodes of reality favourites SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA, MASTERCHEF and SHAQ VS. New episodes of FLASHPOINT and HOT IN CLEVELAND also continue throughout August. At the end of the month the small screen rolls out the red carpet for the 62nd PRIMETIME EMMY® AWARDS.

Programming highlights for August 16 – 31 on CTV include:

* The cross-country search for Canada’s favourite dancer continues at the Calgary and Halifax auditions on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA (Aug. 16)
* Guest judge Mary Murphy joins the judging panel during the Vancouver auditions on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA (Aug. 17)
* Shaquille O’Neal challenges Rachael Ray to a cook-off, and takes on Tyson Gay on SHAQ VS (Aug. 17)
* In a two-hour episode the Top 14 contestants enter the MASTERCHEF kitchen for the very first time (Aug. 18)
* SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA audition tour makes its last stop in Montreal (Aug. 18)
* Finals Week begins on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA (Aug. 19)
* Douglas Smith (BIG LOVE) guest stars on FLASHPOINT (Aug. 20)
* The Season 3 Top 20 is revealed on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA (Aug. 22)
* The Top 20 take the stage for the first time on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA (Aug. 23)
* Elka (Betty White) must decide between two senior suitors on HOT IN CLEVELAND (Aug. 24)
* Chef Cat Cora (IRON CHEF) makes a guest appearance on MASTERCHEF (Aug. 25)
* The biggest and the best in the television industry gather for a night of glitz and glamour on the 62nd PRIMETIME EMMY® AWARDS (Aug. 29)

Monday, August 16

9 p.m. – SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA – NEW TWO-HOUR EPISODE
The cross-country search for Canada’s favourite dancer continues with the Calgary and Halifax auditions. A new crop of dancers sweat it out on the dance floor and attempt to prove to the judges they have what it takes to be on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA. Guest judges include Stacey Tookey appearing at the Calgary auditions and Dan Karaty appearing in the Halifax auditions.

Tuesday, August 17

8 p.m. – SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA – NEW EPISODE
The judges, including guest judge Mary Murphy, head west to see what dance talent surfaces during the Vancouver auditions on a one-hour episode of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA.

9 p.m. – SHAQ VS – “Shaq Vs. Rachael Ray/Tyson Gay” – NEW EPISODE
Shaquille O’Neal travels to New York City to challenge daytime host and author Rachael Ray to a cook-off, and then heads to a track in Los Angeles to take on Tyson Gay, the fastest man in the world.

Wednesday, August 18

7 p.m. – MASTERCHEF– “14 Cut to 12” – NEW TWO-HOUR EPISODE
The Top 14 contestants enter the MASTERCHEF kitchen for the first time and begin a journey that will change their lives. During the team challenge, the contestants spend the day feeding hundreds of Marines at Camp Pendleton. The team who wins the challenge is safe from elimination while the losers return to the MASTERCHEF kitchen to face a pressure test.

9 p.m. – SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA – NEW TWO-HOUR EPISODE
It’s the last stop during the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA audition tour as Canadians have one more shot to prove they are the best dancers during the Montreal auditions. Judges Jean Marc Genereux, Tré Armstrong and Luther Brown are joined by guest judge Mia Michaels.

Thursday, August 19

9 p.m. – SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA – NEW TWO-HOUR EPISODE
During “Finals Week” almost 150 dancers travel to Toronto, where the dancers test their limits with the goal of earning a spot in the coveted SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA Top 20. Guest judges including Sean Cheesman, Mary Murphy and Rex Harrington.

Friday, August 20

10 p.m. – FLASHPOINT – “Whatever It Takes” – NEW EPISODE
The SRU is called to save a star basketball player (Douglas Smith, BIG LOVE) pushed to the brink of suicide by a team’s code of silence and an abusive coach (Mike Dopud, SMALLVILLE).

Saturday, August 21

10 p.m. – COMEDY NOW! – “Dave Hemstad” – NEW EPISODE
An accomplished comedy writer, stand-up performer and actor, Dave Hemstad has earned a reputation for his insightful logic and penetrating witticism. In 2003, Hemstad was honoured by the Canadian Organization of Campus Activities as the “Best Comedian in Canada.” Hemstad has performed on many stages including Just for Laughs and the Halifax Comedy Festival, as well as on international stages in Singapore and England. Hemstad has also shared the stage with comedians including Russell Peters, Jeremy Hotz and Canadian legend, Ron James.

10:30 p.m. – COMEDY INC. – NEW EPISODE
Sketches include Meet the Family; Good Cop, Bad Cop; Paul Schaeffer’s new charity; a really hot DVD and Bjork’s new talk show.

Sunday, August 22

9 p.m. – SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA – NEW EPISODE
In this special one-hour episode, “Finals Week” comes to an end and the Season 3 Top 20 are revealed on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA.

Monday, August 23

9 p.m. – SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA – NEW TWO-HOUR EPISODE
The Top 20 are paired into 10 couples and take to the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA stage for the first performance episode.

Tuesday, August 24

8 p.m. – HOT IN CLEVELAND – “It’s Not That Complicated” – NEW EPISODE
When Melanie’s (Valerie Bertinelli) ex-husband comes to woo her, Joy (Jane Leeves) and Victoria (Wendie Malick) can’t help it and get too involved. Meanwhile, Elka (Betty White) must decide between two senior suitors. Carl Reiner (THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW) returns as a guest star, along with Tim Conway (THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW).

8:30 p.m. – SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA – RESULTS EPISODE
In the first results show of the season, one guy and one girl are eliminated from the competition.

9 p.m. – SHAQ VS – “Shaq Vs. Charles Barkley/Competitive Eating” – NEW EPISODE
Shaquille O’Neal travels to Dana Point, California to tee off against Charles Barkley on the St. Regis Monarch Beach golf links. He then heads to Las Vegas to challenge Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Champion Joey Chestnut outside Serendipity 3.

Wednesday, August 25

8 p.m. – MASTERCHEF – NEW TWO-HOUR EPISODE
The home cooks are challenged to make a single cupcake, a task that proves to be harder than it seems. Special guest Chef Cat Cora (IRON CHEF) and the contestants step out of the kitchen for the team challenge: cooking for truckers at a truck stop. The losers return to face the pressure test, where they must name as many ingredients they can from a table of fresh farmers-market finds.

Thursday, August 26

8:30 p.m. – TWO AND A HALF MEN – “Best H.O Money Can Buy” – NEW TO CTV
Alan (Jon Cryer) tries to escape Judith’s (Marin Hinkle) grasp as Charlie (Charlie Sheen) and Herb (Ryan Stiles) go on the prowl.

Friday, August 27

8 p.m. – MEDIUM – “All in the Family” – NEW TO CTV
Allison (Patricia Arquette) investigates a woman’s disappearance, but her dreams reveal there may be more to the case.

9 p.m. – LAW & ORDER – “The Drowned and the Saved” – NEW TO CTV
The murder of a prominent charity executive leads Detectives Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) and Bernard (Anthony Anderson) down a twisted path of political intrigue.

Saturday, August 28

10 p.m. – COMEDY NOW! – “Debra DiGiovanni” – NEW EPISODE
Debra DiGiovanni has been quoted as one of Canada’s fastest rising stand-up talents. Her comedy has a sharp edge while maintaining a playful air. DiGiovanni’s dynamic onstage personality coupled with a hilarious and very relatable act is what makes her so popular. Her humour and charm lie within her unflinching honesty and openness. 7 p.m. – 62nd PRIMETIME EMMY® AWARDS RED CARPET SPECIAL – NEW SPECIAL
Broadcasting live from the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles, the one-hour event co-hosted by ACCESS HOLLYWOOD’s Billy Bush, Maria Menounos and New York Times best-selling author Nate Berkus (THE NATE BERKUS SHOW) features more stars, fashion and glamour than ever before. Nominees, presenters and special guests will interact with the red carpet co-hosts and special segments will be highlighted throughout the hour.

8 p.m. – 62nd PRIMETIME EMMY® AWARDS – NEW SPECIAL
Broadcasting live from the NOKIA Theatre in Los Angeles, and hosted by Emmy® nominated comedian Jimmy Fallon (LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON), this year’s star-studded awards ceremony recognizes the best in prime-time television.

Monday, August 30

8:30 p.m. – THE BIG BANG THEORY – “The Electric Can Opener Fluctuation” – NEW TO CTV
A betrayal threatens to destroy the guys’ friendship with Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Leonard’s (Johnny Galecki) chances with Penny (Kaley Cuoco).

9 p.m. – SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA – NEW TWO-HOUR EPISODE
The Top 18 couples return to the dance floor on the two-hour performance episode.

Tuesday, August 31

8 p.m. – HOT IN CLEVELAND – “The Play’s The Thing” – NEW EPISODE
When Victoria (Wendie Malick) volunteers with a local high school play, the students wind up doing her version of “Romeo and Juliet.” Meanwhile, Melanie’s (Valerie Bertinelli) hot new romance strains her friendship with Joy (Jane Leeves), and Elka (Betty White) goes funeral crashing. Mark Indelicato (UGLY BETTY) guest stars.

8:30 p.m. – SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA –RESULTS EPISODE
Another guy and another girl are sent home on the live results episode.
