In the late 2000s, when many bands were being strangled by the industry’s power structure, Metric undid all their business entanglements and started their own company, Metric Music International (MMI). Metric has always strived to make their own music, their own way and on their own terms. They released their first full length album, Old World Underground, Where Are You Now in 2003, and it saw the band nominated for their first JUNO Award for Alternative Album Of The Year. They followed with Live It Out in 2005, which racked up another JUNO nomination in 2006 for Alternative Album Of The Year as well as a Polaris Music Prize nomination. Metric’s fourth studio album, Fantasies was shortlisted for 2009 Polaris Prize and secured the band JUNO Award wins for Alternative Album of the Year and Band Of The Year in 2010. They released their latest album, Syntheticain June of 2012. The album’s lead single, Youth Without Youth broke records in radio in Canada, debuting at #1 and staying there for more than 16 weeks. Metric recently took home a Canadian Screen Award win for their work on David Cronenbergs’s Cosmopolis soundtrack. They contributed the lead single to the film Scott Pilgrim vs The World and wrote the Grammy®-nominated theme song for Twilight Saga: Eclipse. They have toured internationally and will be playing back-to-back weekends at Coachella prior to JUNO weekend.
