MOTIVE Spins Off Exclusive Digital Series Thursday, March 28

CTV announced today the premiere of THE DARK CORNER, an original digital series spun-off from its hit Canadian drama MOTIVE. Ordered exclusively for CTV’s digital platforms, including CTV.ca/Motive,CTV App, and CTV Mobile, THE DARK CORNER will premiere in its entirety together with this week’s episode of MOTIVE on Thursday, March 28. The new digital drama takes viewers through both past and present timelines in the same gripping format as its television companion. For the first time, all eight episodes will debut simultaneously, allowing viewers to watch the entire series immediately. THE DARK CORNER is CTV’s latest digital spin-off reflecting the network’s commitment to commission and launch companion digital series. In 2013, CTV premiered THE SWITCH (THE LISTENER) and ASK GAVIN (SAVING HOPE) on digital platforms.

“With an ongoing strategy to create engaging digital companion series, we knew from the beginning we wanted to do something innovative with MOTIVE in the digital space that would drive appetite for new and existing fans,” said Mike Cosentino, Senior Vice President, Programming, CTV Networks.

“Digital extensions to favourite television programs provide opportunities for fans to experience insider stories, said Andra Sheffer, Executive Director of the Bell Fund which partially funded this project, and THE DARK CORNER offers MOTIVE fans something very special.”

THE DARK CORNER takes audiences deeper into the world of MOTIVE when a cold case comes to light with unexpected results. Each episode is a piece of a larger puzzle, allowing viewers to explore one intriguing aspect of the cold case that still torments MOTIVE’s Staff Sergeant Boyd Bloom (Roger Cross, ARROW). Also featuring MOTIVE’s Detective Brian Lucas (Brendan Penny, THE ASSISTANTS) and Dr. Betty Rogers (Lauren Holly, Any Given Sunday, NCIS), the story revolves around an incident in Bloom’s past where he was injured by the gunfire that killed his rookie partner. This injury sidelined him to the desk job he has today. The case was never solved and Bloom wasn’t permitted access to the case files. Ten years later, Lucas, a junior detective, stumbles upon a possible present-day lead in this old case. He is keen to dig into the past and Bloom seizes the opportunity to finally put this case to rest, but before Lucas and Bloom can solve the case, they have to figure out if they can even work together.

MOTIVE airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on CTV (visit CTV.ca/Schedule to confirm local broadcast times). New episodes of MOTIVE are available on demand the day following their television broadcast at CTV.ca/Motive, the CTV App and CTV Mobile. Fans can also visit the MOTIVE Facebook page and follow on Twitter (@MotiveTV, #Motive) for show updates and the latest news.
