Original New Comedy Series DAN FOR MAYOR Gets Inducted into CTV Line Up, March 1

CORNER GAS and ROBSON ARMS alumnus Fred Ewanuick stars as Dan, an average 30-something bartender whose off-the-cuff comment spirals into his haphazard candidacy for mayor in the half-hour Original Comedy Series DAN FOR MAYOR, premiering Monday, March 1 at 8:30 p.m. ET on CTV (visit CTV.ca to confirm local broadcast times). Created and written by three of Canada’s most respected comedy writers and producers – Mark Farrell (CORNER GAS; THIS HOUR HAS 22 MINUTES), Paul Mather (CORNER GAS; THE RICK MERCER REPORT) and Kevin White (CORNER GAS; THIS HOUR HAS 22 MINUTES) – DAN FOR MAYOR follows Dan on his new-found quest to make it big in local politics.

Monday nights on CTV are truly must-see: DAN FOR MAYOR follows CTV Original Comedy HICCUPS, as the two new Canadian series (8-9 p.m.) bookend a two-hour comedy block concluding with mega hits TWO AND A HALF MEN and THE BIG BANG THEORY (9-10 p.m.) Following the television broadcast of DAN FOR MAYOR, new episodes are available on demand on The CTV Video Player at CTV.ca and from popular internet download stores. Viewers can also enjoy encore broadcasts of DAN FOR MAYOR on Saturdays at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on The Comedy Network.

“DAN FOR MAYOR comes from three of Canada’s most successful comedy writers and producers and stars one of our country’s most loveable actors,” said Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc. “We’re betting viewers will vote for DAN FOR MAYOR.”

“I’m very excited. CTV has given us a great time slot, on a great night,” said Fred Ewanuick. “I’m proud of the work everyone has done on the show, and I hope Canada likes it as much as I do.”

Dan’s (Ewanuick) life has been uneventful until he is faced with the unexpected career change of running for mayor of his hometown. He lives and works in the fictional city of Wessex, Ontario, has the same friends since grade school, his most prized possession is a vintage Ms. Pac-Man game and his last serious relationship was with a girl who is now engaged to someone else. DAN FOR MAYOR follows Dan’s journey of self-discovery as he, his ex-girlfriend, Claire (Mary Ashton, DEGRASSI GOES HOLLYWOOD), and best friend, Jeff (Paul Bates, Welcome to Mooseport), figure out Dan’s new-found political career, deal with the unexpected, and prove that experience isn’t everything.

Filmed in Toronto, Kitchener and Waterloo, Ontario, DAN FOR MAYOR also stars Benjamin Ayres (VAMPIRE DIARIES) as Mike, a savvy business man who is Claire’s fiancé; Suzanne Coy (HEARTLAND) as Anita, the appliance store owner; Agam Darshi (SANCTUARY) as Brianna, Anita’s niece; Laurie Murdoch (FLASHPOINT) as Alan, the deputy mayor of Wessex; David Ferry (THIS IS WONDERLAND) as Fern, the owner of the bar and Dan’s boss; and Lara Jean Chorostecki (DEGRASSI: THE NEXT GENERATION) as Charlie, Dan’s beautiful coworker.

A few real life Mayors also make cameo appearances in the first season of DAN FOR MAYOR. Carl Zehr, Mayor of Kitchener, plays a Wessex resident; Brenda Halloran, Mayor of Waterloo, appears as a TV reporter; and David Miller, Mayor of Toronto, visits Fern’s Bar and Grill. When asked their opinion on how Dan should play his cards when running for mayor, Zehr responded: “Go for the gusto and say it like it is. Just be yourself,” Halloran adds: “Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t be mayor. Don’t let anyone stop you.” And after shooting his bar scene Miller suggests: “Stay out of the bar.”

In the DAN FOR MAYOR premiere episode “The Blind Spot” (premiering Mon., March 1 at 8:30 p.m. ET on CTV), we meet Dan Phillips (Ewanuick) as he learns his former girlfriend Claire Kendal (Ashton) is engaged to someone else. When she breaks the news to Dan, he reacts the way most of us would – by telling her he’s running for mayor.

DAN FOR MAYOR is produced by Sad Glasses and QVF Inc. in association with CTV and The Comedy Network.
