W5 Presents Undercover Investigation into Multi-Million Dollar Auto Theft Crime Ring in 53rd Season Premiere, This Saturday, Sept. 22 on CTV

Canada’s most-watched documentary series and North America’s longest-running investigative series W5 returns for a 53rd season of ground-breaking investigative storytelling, this Saturday Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. ET on CTV, the CTV GO app, and CTVNews.ca. In the premiere episode, W5 Host and Managing Editor Kevin Newman delivers “Hot Wheels”, investigating new and shocking car theft techniques and following the elite police task force combatting insidious and organized fraud operations.

Shining a light on this previously invisible auto theft crime ring, W5 reveals furtive and sophisticated technology criminals use to steal high-end cars and SUVs. W5 also looks into the specialized fraud schemes that result in stolen vehicles being shipped in containers overseas from Canadian ports.

Also this week, in “Suspect ZeroW5 correspondent Avery Haines reveals the disturbing back story to the 2012 police investigations into three disappearances from Toronto’s Gay Village that eventually led to the arrest of alleged serial killer Bruce McArthur.

“In this week’s season premiere, W5 delivers unprecedented access into two police investigations of great significance – one very high-profile, and another that most Canadians aren’t aware of yet,” said Newman. “Throughout our 53rd season, we’ll continue W5’s great legacy of informing and engaging with Canadians by asking tough questions and uncovering the truth.”

“By conducting long-lead investigations and seeking out compelling stories from across Canada and around the world, W5 consistently delivers unique features that Canadian viewers won’t find anywhere else,” said Anton Koschany, Executive Producer, W5. “We are proud to uphold W5’s longstanding commitment to in-depth, investigative journalism, and we look forward to unearthing more great stories in our new season.”

W5 recently received top honours from the RTDNA for its outstanding achievements in electronic and digital journalism. In 2018, W5’s “Jet Lagged” and “Mesh Misery” won the Trina McQueen Award for Best Television News Information Program and “Electric Pow Wow” won the Adrienne Clarkson Award for Diversity. W5 Host and Managing Editor Kevin Newman was honoured with the prestigious President’s Award for his accomplishments in bringing recognition and distinction to the field of electronic and digital journalism, and W5 Reporter Sandie Rinaldo was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award for exemplary service and continued excellence during the course of her career in journalism.

W5 launches a new season of entertaining, informing, and educating Canadians and upholding its commitment to first-rate investigative journalism powered by its unparalleled team: Host and Managing Editor Kevin Newman, Reporters Sandie Rinaldo and Avery Haines, CTV News’ Chief Anchor and Senior Editor Lisa LaFlamme, and regular contributions from CTV News Special Correspondent Lloyd Robertson.

In addition to airing Saturdays at 7 p.m. ET beginning Sept. 22 on CTV, W5 also airs Saturdays at 10 p.m. on CTV Two and Sundays (see local listings). W5 is also available on demand at CTVNews.ca/W5, and on the CTV GO and CTV News GO apps.
