Award-Winning Journalist ANNE MROCZKOWSKI to Join Leslie Roberts As Co-Anchor of the Global Toronto News Hour

Global Toronto announced today that esteemed local news personality Anne Mroczkowski will join Leslie Roberts as the new co-anchor of the station’s flagship 6pm newscast on June 1st, 2010.

“Leslie and Anne are an unbeatable team,” said Patrick O’Hara, Vice President, Eastern Stations & General Manager, Global Toronto. “Their collective experience, knowledge, and deep connection with viewers in the Greater Toronto Area make them a winning combination. We are very pleased to welcome Anne to Global Toronto and are confident that our viewers will love our new co-anchor team.”

For more than 30 years, award-winning, veteran news anchor Anne Mroczkowski has brought local television audiences the stories that have moved, shaken or stirred their hearts, minds and lives in the GTA. She comes to Global having co-anchored CityTV’s primetime newscast for more than two decades. Anne was born in Hamilton, raised in Toronto’s Parkdale district and studied journalism at Carleton University and Niagara College. Despite many opportunities to work abroad, she chose to remain in the community she loves so much, where her roots are deep and her commitment to the GTA is one of enduring affection.

“I look forward to being part of the Global Toronto news team,” commented Anne. “I have always recognized them as a talented and dedicated group who consistently bring insight and perspective when covering stories in the GTA. I am excited to be a part of this incredible family and to share the anchor desk with Leslie, a journalist whom I have admired for many years.”

Leslie Roberts has been the trusted anchor of the News Hour for almost a decade. A media veteran who hails from a long line of Canadian journalists, Leslie began his storied career in radio and made the jump to television in 1985 at CTV Montreal. After a ‘tour of duty’ in the United States with TV News in New York in the late 90s, Leslie returned home in 2000 to become a valued member of the Global News family in Montreal. He joined Global Toronto in 2001 and has led its award-winning news team ever since.

“Anne has had an outstanding career in local television and has made an enormous contribution to Toronto,” said Leslie. “I welcome the opportunity to work with her and know she will be an invaluable addition to our news organization.”
