Global Announces Summer Lineup

Global’s knockout line-up of new and returning shows kick-off the year’s brightest season with a bang. From the highly-anticipated premiere of a scripted original series to reality favourites and network debuts, summer hits live on Global.

Served straight up and with a twist of danger, the all-new sexy cop drama Rookie Blue makes its world premiere on Thursday, June 24 – 9pm ET/PT on Global and ABC. Featuring a stellar line-up of talent including Missy Peregrym (“Reaper”, “Heroes”) and Gregory Smith (“Everwood”), the one-hour 13-part original series follows the lives of five inexperienced rookie cops as they are thrown into the world of big city policing – where even the smallest mistake can have life-or-death consequences.

It’s open house and the drama ensues with summer favourite Big Brother, now back for its 12th season starting Thursday, July 8 – 8pm ET/PT. The three-times-a-week addictive reality series features a fresh batch of contestants to take over the house and play for the $500,000 grand prize. Hosted by Julie Chen, the season promises brand new twists, challenges and cheeky surprises.

The often hazardous, yet always hilarious reality series Wipeout, is back for its third season on Tuesday, June 22 – 8pm ET/PT. On top of all-new themed episodes featuring creative additions to the world’s largest extreme and incredibly challenging obstacle course, viewers can expect more dare-devilish participants vying for the title of ‘Wipeout Champion’ and the $50,000 grand prize. Hosts John Anderson and John Henson provide running commentary as contestants do their best to navigate the wild and crazy stunts like ‘Plank in the Face,’ ‘Hurtles’ and more.

Moving from physical to cerebral dexterity, the critically-acclaimed drama series Lie To Me returns with all-new episodes on Monday, June 7 – 8pm ET/PT. Back with new lies and life-changing situations, Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth, “Reservoir Dogs”), the world’s leading deception expert, continues to assist federal law enforcement by taking on their cases and using scientific ability to spot a lie through facial expressions and body movement. Both a blessing and a curse, Lightman wrestles in his personal life, where family and friends deceive each other as readily as criminals and strangers.

Directly following is the new action-comedy series, The Good Guys, premiering on Monday, June 7 – 9pm ET/PT. The Good Guys follows Jack Bailey (Colin Hanks, “Orange County”), a detective who follows the rules, and Dan Stark (Bradley Whitford, “The West Wing”) an unpredictable cop who is only in the business because of a heroic act years ago, as they expose the big picture of small crime. Reminded of the way he busted punks back in the good old days, Dan convinces Jack to go along for the ride in a reckless pursuit of justice resulting in a flurry of broken department regulations.

Next it’s the fast-paced crime drama In Plain Sight back for its third season on Monday, June 7 – 10pm ET/PT. Hardnosed U.S. Marshal, Mary Shannon (Mary McCormack, “The West Wing”) returns to her work of protecting the lives of federal witnesses under siege. Those under her care can be anything from career criminals, thieves and murderers to those who have had the misfortune of witnessing or falling victim to a crime. While Mary loves her job, she knows better than anyone that it’s not easy leading a double life – especially since getting shot at on a regular basis is all in a day’s work.

The fun doesn’t stop there. The inaugural season of Drop Dead Diva premieres on Wednesday, June 9 – 9pm ET/PT. Praised by critics as one of 2009’s top new shows, the one-hour comedic drama tells the story of a shallow, wannabe model who dies in a sudden accident only to find her soul resurfacing in the body of a brilliant, plus-size and recently deceased attorney, Jane.

Finally, season one of the hit medical series Hawthorne premieres on Friday, June 18 – 9pm ET/PT. Starring and executive-produced by Jada Pinkett Smith (“The Women”, “The Matrix”), this character-driven drama follows the life of Christina Hawthorne, a compassionate and headstrong Chief Nursing Officer, as she spends her days and nights on the front lines of a Richmond Trinity Hospital. Whether showing humanity to a homeless woman, trying to talk a suicidal cancer patient off a ledge or exposing a doctor’s near-fatal error, Hawthorne will do everything in her power to help her patients.
