Global BC is pulling out all the stops to provide viewers with the most extensive coverage possible of Canada Day festivities taking place in Vancouver. With all five newscasts throughout the day devoted to covering the city’s biggest event of the year, Global BC’s award-winning news team has all angles covered. Coverage begins Tomorrow, July 1st at 5:30am with the Morning News and continues on all news broadcasts throughout the day.

Global BC’s Canada Day coverage kicks off first thing Friday morning with live coverage from its exclusive broadcast centre in front of the iconic Olympic cauldron at Jack Poole Plaza. Fans are encouraged to come down to Global BC’s remote studio setup throughout the day and catch a glimpse of each newscast broadcast live, on-location.
5:30 – 9am: Morning News: Anchor Steve Darling, along with Mark Madryga and Wesla Wong will provide viewers with a preview of all the events, exhibits and activities comprising this year’s celebration.
12:00 – 1pm Noon News Hour: Anchor Sophie Lui – along with Mark Madryga and Wesla Wong – provide an exclusive look inside the ‘Peacekeeping Nation’ exhibit honouring the Canadian Forces. The team will also sample some of the multicultural food on site.
5 – 5:30pm: Early News: Deborra Hope and Mark Madryga wrap up the day’s events and
preview Canada Day events occurring later in the evening.
6 – 7pm: News Hour: Chris Gailus anchors alongside Deborra Hope, and Mark Madryga, and gives viewers the opportunity to get up-close-and-personal with the province’s premiere flagship newscast.
11 – 11:30pm News Hour Final: Jill Krop will recap the day’s events, including the Canada Day parade and the evening-capping Burrard Inlet Fireworks Show.
Chris Gailus will also be hosting the annual Citizenship Ceremony beginning at 10am at the Canada Place main stage at Jack Poole Plaza. Gailus will be on hand to introduce and welcome 60 new Canadians as they take their oath of citizenship.
Throughout the day, viewers are also encouraged to stop by Global BC’s community tent at Jack Poole Plaza and meet their favourite on-air news personalities, have their photos taken on the Global BC news set and enter to win a trip for two to Pacific Sands Beach Resort in Tofino.
Those unable to catch the celebration in-person can watch coverage of the Canada Day festivities on Shaw TV. This includes live coverage of the Burrard Inlet Fireworks Show on Friday, July 1 beginning 10:30pm and coverage of the Canada Day parade Saturday, July 2 at 7pm & Sunday, July 3 at 3:30pm.
