Global and Second City go for comedy gold with a fresh take on sketch comedy with The Second City Project, a dynamic multiplatform collection of addictive, laugh-out-loud content launching on Globaltv.com and Global Go. Beginning today, an onslaught of comedic sketches invade social networks, including Vine, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube, before culminating in a must-see broadcast special on April 19 at 8:30 pm ET/PT on Global. The special includes exclusive never-before-seen sketches as well as trailblazing pieces from the larger than life characters that audiences have laughed with online.
“The Second City Project is an exciting opportunity for us to move into the digital space with short form comedy that is perfectly suited for the online community,” said Christine Shipton SVP, Content, Shaw Media. “There is no other brand more synonymous with comedy than Second City, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to introduce the incredibly talented group of Second City writer-performers to our audiences through such an engaging platform.“
Introducing a host of hilarious new comedic characters from the world’s premiere name in comedy – the Second City Toronto and Chicagotheatres – The Second City Project features sketch comedy at its finest with two parallel worlds: a sleek cinematic world of filmed sketches and semi-scripted scenes from the writers’ room. The writers’ room offers viewers a glimpse into the workplace politics, sexual tension and outright shenanigans at play in vignettes about life behind-the-scenes at The Second City Project. But that’s not all – satirical takes on network executives, new writers, collaborative culture and the inherent madness of creating sketch comedy for television are just some of the themes explored in the The Second City Project.
Executive Producers Andrew Alexander and Bob Martin put together a cast of some of the most exciting young comic actors in North America forThe Second City Project. Featuring showrunner Bob Martin (Slings & Arrows, The Drowsy Chaperone), along with Second City alumni writer-performers Marty Adams (The Ron James Show, Hemlock Grove), Tim Baltz (Better Call Saul, Veep), Caitlin Howden (The Sunday Service),Sam Richardson (Veep), Kayla Lorette (That’s So Weird, Roller Town) and Steve Waltien (Chicago Fire).
