Global News is pleased to announce it has won 10 Radio and Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) National and Network Awards at this evening’s annual banquet. These wins capped off what has been a triumphant week for Global News and its flagship newscast Global National, after they captured the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence in Network Television. One of the most important television news accolades, this marks the first time a Canadian network has won in the awards 42-year history, after having previously been dominated by American and International broadcasters.

Global Edmonton brings home the Bert Cannings Best Newscast Award for its coverage of the University of Alberta’s Hub Mall shootings. As the only station to claim this impressive award three times, Global Edmonton continues to beat out the competition and maintain its leadership position in the community.
16×9 also came out on top this evening, taking home more network awards than any competitor news magazine program, including the Dan McArthur Award for in-depth and investigative reporting and theTrina McQueen Award for the best news information program. In addition, Global Toronto took home two national RTDNA awards for its joint-Globalnews.ca coverage special, Gardiner: Trouble Overhead. These wins included the national Digital Media Award and the Dan McArthur Award. In total, Gardiner: Trouble Overhead has captured five industry awards this year, including an international Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Continuing Coverage.
