Barbara Williams, Executive Vice-President, Content, Canwest Broadcasting officially unveiled Global’s 2010-2011 Primetime Schedule at Yorkville’s Hazelton Hotel this afternoon.
“Global is heading into the new season with our most powerful schedule in years,” said Williams. “With 16 primetime returning series – including the #1 program on television and the #1 new hit of the year – plus the fall’s most talked-about new shows, Global is Canada’s home of the new hits.”
Headlining Global’s lineup of new acquisitions is the most buzz-worthy series of the year, the long-awaited reboot of the iconic hit HAWAII FIVE-O, already dubbed THE new show of the fall by Entertainment Weekly. Hawaii Five-O stars sexy up-and-comer Alex O’Loughlin (“The Shield”) who takes on the memorable role of Detective Steve McGarrett, and Scott Caan (“Oceans 11”) who stars as Detective Daniel “Danno” Williams.
Also joining Global’s Monday lineup is the sizzling new drama LONESTAR. From the creators of Party of Five and director Marc Webb (“500 Days of Summer”), the series is set against the backdrop of big Texas oil. Starring character actor Jon Voight and TV’s hottest newcomer James Wolk as a charismatic con artist entangled in a web from which he can’t break free.
Global will add two new programs to Thursday nights this fall. The first is a comedy following an American who is transferred to supervise a novelty company’s new call centre in India. OUTSOURCED stars fresh-faced funny-man Ben Rappaport and centres around the hilarious culture clash between the Midwest and the East.
Also joining the Thursday schedule is LOVE BITES, an anthology series from Cindy Chupack, the Emmy® Award-winning writer-producer of Sex and the City and the production company behind box office hits Love Actually and Bridget Jones’s Diary. Featuring three loosely connected stories of love, sex, marriage and dating each week, Love Bites stars Becki Newton (“Ugly Betty”), Jordana Spiro (“My Boys”) and Greg Grunberg (“Heroes”) with special guest star Jennifer Love Hewitt (“The Ghost Whisperer”).
Friday nights this fall, Global will introduce its highly-anticipated, bold new Original Canadian drama series SHATTERED, starring acclaimed actor Callum Keith Rennie (“Californication,” “24”) as an unconventional homicide detective harbouring the secret of his battle with Multiple Personality Disorder.
Also on Fridays, TV legend and Emmy Award winner Jimmy Smits (“NYPD Blue,” “The West Wing”) returns to the screen in OUTLAW, a new legal drama from Conan O’Brien’s production company. The series follows a Supreme Court judge (Smits) who abruptly quits his high-level position to return to private practice, and use his inside knowledge of the justice system to take- on today’s biggest legal cases.
For mid-season, Global has acquired RIDE-ALONG, a smart and gritty police drama starring Jennifer Beals (“The L Word,” “Lie To Me”) as Teresa Colvin, the newly appointed Chicago Chief of Police. Determined to implement changes before city politics clog her office, Colvin learns her difficult choices have made her powerful enemies.
