It’s the classic frontier story….taken flight. Season One of Omni Film’s Ice Pilots NWT is a gripping 13-episode real-life docu series about a renegade Arctic airline that flies World War II planes in the Canadian North. Beginning Friday, September 24th at 9 p.m. ET/PT, the series will air on Global Television as part of its powerful Fall programming schedule. Please check local listings.
“We’re thrilled to be airing Season One of Ice Pilots NWT on Global,” says Omni partner and executive producer Gabriela Schonbach. “With the incredible success of its premiere on History Television and the massive audience response internationally, we’re delighted to showcase the original adventures of Buffalo Air to an ever growing Canadian audience.”
Filmed over nine months of winter, Ice Pilots NWT follows rookie pilots and frostbitten ramp hands as they struggle to keep vintage warbirds flying despite blizzards, breakdowns and impossible jobs. Young pilots with a taste for adventure come to Yellowknife-based Buffalo Airways to earn their wings and fly the same vintage aircraft their grandfathers flew in WWII. But it’s a different war now: a war against bitter cold and frequent mishaps, a war to haul people and supplies in the toughest conditions on Earth.
“It will be a great opportunity for fans to re-unite with their favourite Buffalo Air characters and re-live the extraordinary adventures of the rookie pilots, the antique planes, and the impossible jobs,” says series producer David Gullason. “And for those who missed it during last year’s premiere, they get to watch it for the first time.”
The accompanying website, funded by the Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund, is packed with a variety of additional content: an interactive story map of the North, video extras, free ringtones, 3D renderings, podcasts, quizzes and a community for fans (www.icepilots.com).
