A 2010 Hot Docs selection, The Story of Furious Pete is a fascinating character study of a truly unique individual with a bizarre and ironic story. Peter Czerwinski was only 16 years-old when he was admitted to Toronto’s Sick Kids Hospital, where he nearly died as a result of anorexia. Now seven years later he has transformed himself into one of the greatest competitive eaters in the world – Furious Pete.
“The Story of Furious Pete is incredibly inspirational, it is a story of sadness, strength, determination and confidence,” commented Madeline Ziniak, National Vice President, OMNI Television.
This hilarious and sometimes bizarre documentary looks into the exciting sport of competitive eating but also explores the daily struggles and triumphs that people go through in their everyday lives as experienced by Pete. It provides a powerful and emotional exploration of male anorexia, something that is not often spoken about in society, as well as the importance of family and the strength of love.
“As a filmmaker, you’re always searching for that compelling character or an interesting story to tell so when I discovered Peter Czerwinski and learned of his back story, the light bulb just went off.,” commented George Tsioutsioulas, Director and Producer. “I knew I wanted to make a documentary that was equal parts gross, bizarre, inspiring, emotional and entertaining. So far, The Story of Furious Pete has received an amazing reaction from audiences at film festivals around the world and I am very excited that it is airing on OMNI Television. “
