OMNI Television celebrates Chinese New Year with Special Programming from Thursday, February 3 to Sunday February 13

Join OMNI Television in celebrating the Year of the Rabbit with special programming to welcome the New Year. OMNI Television Present’s: Mandarin Weekend New Year Special: Saturday, February 5 at 6pm ET/MT and Sunday, February 6, 2011 at 10pm PT

Hosted by OMNI News: Mandarin Edition’s Grant Guo, this one hour special will feature the telling of traditional folklore surrounding the Year of the Rabbit, cooking demonstrations of traditional Chinese New Year dishes and news coverage of local B.C. and Alberta Chinese community celebrations. Plus, greetings from Prime Minister Stephen Harper; Ontario Premier, Dalton McGuinty; Alberta Premier, Ed Stelmach; and B.C. Premier, Gordon Campbell.

OMNI Television Present’s: Cantonese New Year Special: Saturday, February 5 at 7pm ET/MT and Sunday, February 6, 2011 at 11pm PT

Hosted by on-air OMNI News: Cantonese Edition personality’s Stanley So, Jason Leung, Kenneth Li, Josephine Au, Tina Tse and Eric Chan, this one hour special will highlight extraordinary Chinese New Year celebrations from around the world, fromToronto to China, to Taiwan, and Hong Kong. The special will also feature delicious Chinese New Year cuisine, plus greetings from Ontario Premier, Dalton McGuinty; Chinese Ambassador of Canada Zhang Junsai; Director of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Maureen Siu; and other Canadian Chinese politicians.

Chinese New Year Movie Presentation: All’s Well, Ends Well Too 2010: Saturday, February 5 at 8pm ET/MT (11pm PT)
After spending a decade honing her ceremonial skills in the Midland, Princess Pearl (Angela Yeung Wing) of Flowerland begins her journey home. Along the way she meets General Wing (Ronald Cheng), a strong leader in the Midland Army, who joins her on her travels. An unexpected series of events turns this trip upside down when General Wing rescues a young woman from taking her own life. When the three travelers are later attacked by a gang of pirates Princess Pearl falls overboard and suffers from amnesia. General Wing knows that Princess Pearl is still alive and he won’t rests until his true love is back in his arms.

A mainland Chinese Television event, the CCTV Beijing Chinese New Year Gala will feature various dramatic and comedic skits as well as song and dance performances direct from Beijing.

Celebrate New Year with the brightest stars of Taiwan’s entertainment scene.

Just For Laughs Toronto: The Chinese Comedy and Variety Show: Sunday, February 6 at 8:30pm ET/PT (10:30pm MT)
Alongside some of his funniest countrymen and women, Chinese comedy megastar Jiang Kun will be featured on stage in Toronto, combining hilarious Xiangsheng (two-performer comedy ‘crosstalk’) in Mandarin, non-verbal slapstick physical comedy, masterful sound-effects, eye-popping shadow puppetry, mesmerizing comedy magic and stunning musical and dance performances.

Chinese New Year Movie Presentation: 72 Tenants of Prosperity: Saturday, February 12 at 8pm ET/MT (11pm PT)
Back in the 1970s, Ha Kung (Eric Tsang) and Shek Kin (Jacky Cheung) prevented a greedy pair of slumlords (Lam Ka-Tung and Charmaine Sheh) from evicting 72 destitute tenants and saved a young woman named Pinky (Anita Yuen) from entering into an arranged marriage. Torn between the two men who both declared their love for her, Pinky flipped a coin to determine who she would marry and Ha won. In the years that followed, the goodwill between Ha and Shek gradually eroded and the two former brothers grew into sworn enemies. Forty years later, the two rivals are both working in Mongkok, trying to corner the electronics market as the tenants they once stood up for observe the fierce competition from afar.

Grand Festive Music Concert 2011: Saturday, February 12 at 10pm ET/MT (8pm PT)
Broadcasted from the Concert Hall of the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, the concert will feature the China National Symphony Orchestra, featuring internationally renowned artistic director, Mr. Chen Zuohuang and the outstanding Mr. Lu Jia as the conductor.

OMNI B.C. Year of the Rabbit Celebration Special: Sunday February 13 at 8pm ET/PT (9:30pm MT)
The OMNI B.C. Year of the Rabbit Celebration Special brings viewers lion dancing, fun and fortune. Celebrate Chinese New Year with OMNI B.C. news personalities Carol Wang and Fiona Law as they deliver stories about Chinese New Year cuisine, family traditions and art to viewers at home. They’ll also hop into the Year of the Rabbit with the sights and sounds from the Vancouver Chinese New Year Parade.
