“OMNI Television has long been an authority on issues close to the hearts of our multilingual audiences,” said Madeline Ziniak, National Vice-President, OMNI Television. “By taking a deep look into the temporary foreign worker debate with this special OMNI News series, we are once again bringing a national topic with global implications to the forefront through our newscasts.”
Told through the eyes of labour organization advocates, government officials, employers, and temporary foreign workers themselves, this OMNI News special series sheds light on issues within Canada’s labour and immigration policies. Produced in Edmonton and Calgary by OMNI Television, with contributions from OMNI News bureaus in Toronto and Vancouver, the series examines the plight of unskilled labourers who come to Canada with temporary work permits, in the hope of establishing permanent residency. A gripping examination of the efficacy of Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker Program modified in 2002, OMNI News takes a closer look at this contentious issue. Viewers will hear from temporary foreign workers who claim to have been misled by elusive employers and unscrupulous employment ‘agents’ with empty promises related to working hours, payment, or even the existence of the job or employer itself.
Related stories from this special news series will also broadcast on OMNI Television’s other daily newscasts – OMNI News: Cantonese, Mandarin,Portuguese and Italian editions (check local listings).
