Hollywood Suite Celebrates Canadian Film Icon Norman Jewison November 19 to 21

Hollywood Suite is proud to announce three nights of programming highlighting six of Norman Jewison’s most highly acclaimed films. Each night of the weekend Hollywood Suite will air two films from Jewison’s varied filmography, with all titles available On Demand all month long.

Jewison’s films have earned 45 Oscar nominations, resulting in 12 wins, and he has received the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement, as well as stars on both the Canada and Hollywood Walks of Fame. In addition to making his own films, Jewison established the renowned Canadian Film Centre in 1988, an essential part of Canada’s cinematic landscape. This year, Jewison’s varied career and life was profiled in Ira Wells’ biography, Norman Jewison: A Director’s Life.

When asked what he hopes the next generation of filmmakers will take from his work, Norman Jewison told Hollywood Suite, “I hope (they) will have the courage to tell truthful stories… stories that are believable. Stories that have a strong impact on their audiences worldwide because the ‘truth’ of the human condition is universal.”

“Norman Jewison is among Canada’s most celebrated filmmakers. His movies are timeless and display remarkable range,” said Sharon Stevens, Vice President, Programming at Hollywood Suite. “We are honoured to have the opportunity to showcase a selection of his films this month.”

The celebration will kick off on November 19 with The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming (1966) at 9pm ET, followed by 1967’s groundbreaking In The Heat of The Night starring Sidney Poitier at 11:10pm ET, both on Hollywood Suite’s 70s channel.

On November 20 at 9pm ET, Hollywood Suite’s 80s channel will feature Best Friends (1982), starring Burt Reynolds and Goldie Hawn, followed by A Soldier’s Story (1984) at 10:55pm. You can catch Cher’s Oscar-winning performance in 1987’s Moonstruck at 9pm ET on November 21 on Hollywood Suite’s 80s channel before hopping over to the 90s channel at 10:45pm ET to be swept away in the 1994 romance Only You, which stars Robert Downey Jr. and Marisa Tomei.
