On behalf of the TVO Board of Directors and the employees at TVO it is with great sadness that we extend our condolences to the family and friends of Elwy Yost, beloved longtime host of Saturday Night at the Movies.
From 1974 to 1999 Elwy Yost was a fixture at TVO as the weekday host of Magic Shadows and Saturday Night at the Movies.
As creator of Saturday Night at the Movies, Elwy started a long-standing Saturday night tradition for viewers across the province. And as TVO’s longest-running primetime series, Saturday Night at the Movies continues to have a loyal following today.
Elwy’s popularity as host of Saturday Night at the Movies was unprecedented during his time. Viewers tuned in every week to watch Elwy introduce important films of the day and interview the central people who were involved in the making of these films. His passion and enthusiasm for film was evident to his fans, many of whom still write to TVO with fond recollections of Elwy.
Those who had the great opportunity to work with Elwy at TVO always appreciated his dedication, professionalism and genial personality.
Elwy will be missed by everyone at TVO and longtime fans of Saturday Night at the Movies.
Over the coming weeks TVO will be celebrating the life of Elwy and his love of film on-air and online.
