Ryerson’s RTA School of Bite Launches with Call for Applicants

The future looks funny – Ryerson’s RTA School of Bite (“S.o.B.”) was announced today jointly by broadcaster Bite TVRyerson University’s RTA School of Media and in partnership and with the generous support of the Bell Fund. The RTA S.o.B. program is set to commence January 2013 at Ryerson University in Toronto, and is currently accepting applications.

The first of its kind in Canada, the RTA S.o.B. is a transmedia comedy ideation lab aimed at discovering and nurturing a select team of creative individuals towards producing next generation media content. The program will select 10 participants to take part in the lab creating the comedy of tomorrow supported and led by expert mentors. RTA S.o.B. is seeking self-starters with big ideas and the ability to work together with a diverse group of talented people tocreate the future of funny.

Co-Director. “Together with Ryerson, we can collectively nurture this talent, developing content to set the stage for their comedic success in this new multi-platform media landscape.”

Co-Director, Ryerson University. “The RTA School of Media is a leader in new media and is always looking for original ways to engage audiences across new and emerging platforms.”

Encouraging innovation and skills development for new talent in the digital media industry is a goal of the Bell Fund’s Professional Development Program. “We are glad to support this experimental and creative approach to producing comedy for audiences of the future.” noted Andra Sheffer, Executive Director of the Bell Fund.

The Ottawa-based Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) will be following the progress of RTA S.o.B. as a part of their interest in discovering and tracking new media skills development.

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and either:

·       A student currently enrolled at Ryerson University

·       Someone with a demonstrable interest in comedy and/or technical innovation using media
