BBC First’s Fall Line-Up Includes the Return of Fan-Favourite Series, Blue Lights and Ghosts, With New Seasons Airing During The Channel’s Nationwide Free Preview Event

It’s “bigger, bolder and more dramatic,” says Declan Lawn, Co-Creator, Co-Writer, Co-Director and Executive Producer. The much anticipated second season of Blue Lights (6×60′ HD) comes to BBC First audiences this fall with the Canadian broadcast premiere on Tuesday, November 19. The series is an authentic gripping and darkly funny drama about ordinary people doing an extraordinary job in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Grace (Siân Brooke, Sherlock, Good Omens), Annie (Katherine Devlin, The Dig, Vikings) and Tommy (Nathan Braniff) are growing up fast as police officers, but nothing can prepare them for the turmoil they face every day. It’s a year since the fall of the McIntyre crime gang and the vacuum has been filled by rival gangs, all competing for dominance. Constable Shane Bradley (Frank Blake, Normal People) is drafted in to help, but his motivations are unclear. Tommy is dangerously seduced by the world of intelligence policing, while Grace struggles to deal with her son’s absence, and growing feelings for fellow officer Stevie (Martin McCann, Marcella, Sentinel). As a young military veteran turned gang leader threatens to take over the city, the officers face a major gangland feud – culminating in a violent and devastating confrontation. Blue Lights, Season 2, premieres Tuesday, November 19 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, during the channel’s nationwide free preview event running now until December 29, 2024.

The fall programming lineup continues with the fourth season of the BAFTA nominated comedy and critically acclaimed series Ghosts (7×30′ HD). Making a spirited return Friday, November 22 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on BBC First, the much-loved sitcom features a young couple, Alison (Charlotte Ritchie) and Mike (Kiell Smith-Bynoe), who unexpectedly inherited a grand country estate only to find it is both falling apart and overrun with ghosts. The crumbling country pile of Button House is home to a troupe of restless spirits who have died there over the centuries, each ghost very much a product of their time, resigned to squabbling with each other for eternity over the most inane of daily gripes. This season, Alison and Mike open their much anticipated bijoux B&B in the gatehouse at Button House. They are determined to get the very best reviews, knowing their livelihoods depend on it. As Alison becomes consumed by the demands of the more difficult guests and Mike works tirelessly to ensure they provide 5-star entertainment, the Ghosts face a startling event that will change their lives/deaths forever. A stroke of terrible bad luck threatens the future of Button House.

Blue Lights is co-created, written and directed by Declan Lawn and Adam Patterson, co-created and produced by Stephen Wright of Two Cities Television and co-created and co-produced by Louise Gallagher of Gallagher Films with support from Northern Ireland Screen. Blue Lights was commissioned by Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama and Charlotte Moore, BBC Chief Content Officer. The executive producers are Stephen Wright, Louise Gallagher, Declan Lawn and Adam Patterson and the BBC executive producer is Nick Lambon.

Ghosts is a Monumental Television production in association with Them There for BBC One. The producer is Pat Tookey-Dickson, the director is Simon Hynd, and the creators serve as Executive Producers alongside Alison Carpenter, Debra Hayward and Alison Owen. The series is commissioned by Jon Petrie, Director of Comedy Commissioning. The Commissioning Editor for the BBC is Seb Barwell. Ghosts is distributed by BBC Studios.
