CTV News Announces 2012 U.S. Presidential Election Coverage

Late last week, CTV News announced its plans for expansive coverage of the U.S. Presidential Election next Tuesday, Nov. 6. As Americans head to the polls to elect their leader, CTV News correspondents and panels of experts are preparing to take Canadians through the results and their effect on Canada. Helmed by CTV News’ Chief Anchor, Lisa LaFlamme, CTV News is election central as the entire news division reports the election story.

CTV NATIONAL NEWS
Beginning Monday and continuing on Election Day, CTV NATIONAL NEWS WITH LISA LAFLAMME originates from Washington, DC. LaFlamme sits down with U.S. Ambassador to Canada, David Jacobson; Washington Bureau ChiefPaul Workman reports from Obama Headquarters in Chicago; and Washington Correspondent Joy Malbon reports from Romney Headquarters in Boston. CTV News’ Todd Battis will be in storm-stricken New Jersey, reporting on how the voter turnout went in that state, and L.A. Bureau Chief Tom Walters will be watching how the western states vote, from Los Angeles. Based in Washington throughout the election, Omar Sachedina brings viewers the big picture for CTV Local News broadcasts while also reporting for CTV NATIONAL NEWS.

CANADA AM
Viewers can count on CTV’s CANADA AM on Election Day to cover all the morning’s news affecting the election, and providing a full analysis of the results on Wednesday morning.

QUESTION PERIOD
QUESTION PERIOD’s Kevin Newman looks ahead to next week’s election and welcomes Canada’s Ambassador to the U.S., Gary Doer, to discuss how the results will affect Canada and its economy this Sunday, Nov. 4 at 11 a.m. ET onCTV. Also, political pundits David Frum and Stefan Hankin weigh in from Washington with their predictions.

CTV News Channel’s special ROAD TO THE WHITE HOUSE: AMERICA DECIDES begins at 8 p.m. ET on Election Day. Hosted by CTV News’ Seamus O’Regan, CTV News Channel’s coverage features Marcia MacMillan reporting the latest votes as each U.S. state decides; Michael Hainsworth covering social media connected to the election as he monitors tweets from Obama headquarters, the Romney camp, and what all the stakeholders are saying;Mercedes Stephenson reports live from Washington; and CTV News correspondents Paul Workman and Joy Malbon report from Democrat and Republican Headquarters.

The special broadcast will also feature a panel of experts discussing all the issues at stake. CTV News Channel’s foremost political commentator Scott Reid is joined by Katie Robinette, a former Republican campaign organizer, and Washington Times contributor Michael Taube.

Throughout the special coverage on Election Day, POWER PLAY’s Don Martinwelcomes guests including the U.S. Ambassador live from the election viewing party at the Chateau Laurier in Ottawa, and provides commentary and insight into the relationship between Canada and the U.S.
