Week of August 31 – September 6: Programming Highlights for The CTV Channel Group

MUST-WATCH FOR THE WEEK OF AUGUST 31

CTV: An all-new episode of MARY’S KITCHEN CRUSH airs Sunday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on CTV. When host Mary Berg met Veronica on MASTERCHEF CANADA, she was a tough competitor. They’ve since become close friends, and Mary has realized she’s also a tough critic! Veronica loves a great meal and has eaten at the best Michelin-rated restaurants, so when Mary cooks for her, the pressure is on! Veronica loves comfort food, so Mary puts a fancy spin on her classic comfort food favourites. Mary is whipping up a chili five spice fried chicken on eggettes with spicy honey garlic sesame sauce, a creamy Napa cabbage slaw, topped with a milk tea tiramisu for dessert.

CTV Comedy Channel: Following this week’s scathing coverage of the U.S. Republican National Convention, THE DAILY SOCIAL DISTANCING SHOW WITH TREVOR NOAH goes back to its regular schedule and continues to offer viewers insightful and biting news coverage with 45-minute episodes airing Monday to Thursday at 11 p.m. ET/PT.

CTV Drama Channel kicks off September with its first star-studded Wednesday night movie of the month, THE EQUALIZER, airing Wednesday, Sept. 2 at 9 p.m. ET. Starring Denzel Washington, this vigilante action thriller follows McCall (Washington), a man with a mysterious past who began a new, quiet life. But when McCall meets Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz, CARRIE), a young girl under the control of ultra-violent Russian gangsters, he finds his desire for justice reawakened.

CTV Life Channel: Viewers aspiring to COOK LIKE A CHEF are in luck as the instructive series returns with an all-new episode on Friday, Sept. 4 at 8:30 p.m. ET. With each episode focusing on a single ingredient or theme, home cooks are in for a masterclass as B.C.-born, Montréal-based chef Derek Dammann demonstrates techniques for working with game proteins.

CTV Sci-Fi Channel invites muggles to grab a cup of Butterbeer and enter the wizarding world of Harry Potter with a BACK TO HOGWARTS MARATHON airing this Labour day long weekend. The adventure begins Saturday, Sept. 5 with HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHER’S STONE (1:30 p.m. ET), HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS (4:45 p.m. ET), and HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN (8:15 p.m. ET). Then, on Sunday, Sept. 6, viewers can pick up where they left off with HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE (6:15 p.m. ET), HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX (9:30 p.m. ET), and HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE (12:15 a.m. ET).

CTV Movies: The teen comedy Not Another Teen Movie joins CTV Movies on Thursday, Sept. 3. In the hilarious parody on other classic teen films, Jake Wyler (Chris Evans, Captain America), the all-American football star, makes a foolish bet to turn the frumpy and unpopular Janey Briggs (Chyler Leigh, GREY’S ANATOMY), into the school’s prom queen. With a jealous ex-girlfriend (Jaime Pressley, MY NAME IS EARL) and a spiteful sister (Mia Kirshner, THE L WORD) who stop at nothing to make sure he doesn’t succeed, Jake is forced to use extreme measures to seduce and win the heart of his unsuspecting prom queen-to-be. The film samples an assortment of classic teen characters and movies including Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Grease, Sixteen Candles, and The Breakfast Club, among others.
