Heather Butts Named New Weekend Anchor of CTV NATIONAL NEWS

CTV announced today that Heather Butts has been named Weekend Anchor of CTV NATIONAL NEWS.

With nearly 15 years’ experience covering breaking news stories in communities across Canada, Butts is currently Toronto Correspondent for CTV NATIONAL NEWS. She assumes the role of weekend anchor previously held by Sandie Rinaldo, who now leads the early evening edition of CTV NATIONAL NEWS, weekdays at 5:30 p.m.

“It’s an honour to take over the weekend anchor desk of CTV NATIONAL NEWS, following in the footsteps of pioneering journalist Sandie Rinaldo, while at the same time continuing to work with Omar Sachedina and our fantastic news team,” said Butts. “CTV NATIONAL NEWS is a valued institution for Canadians, and I’m looking forward to connecting with our viewers every weekend to share the most important stories affecting Canada and the world.”

“Heather is a talented journalist and anchor, having spent more than a decade covering breaking news stories in communities across multiple provinces,” said Richard Gray, VP, News, Bell Media. “With the addition of Heather as weekend anchor of CTV NATIONAL NEWS, alongside Omar Sachedina leading our flagship 11 p.m. newscast, and Sandie Rinaldo at the helm of the new early evening edition at 5:30 p.m., CTV NATIONAL NEWS will provide Canadians with even more of the trusted news they expect from Canada’s most-watched national newscast.”

As Toronto Correspondent for CTV NATIONAL NEWS, Butts has covered numerous major stories unfolding across the GTHA in recent years, including the network’s extensive coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic, while also producing features on autism, healthcare, and affordability. Butts travelled to Saskatchewan to cover the 2022 mass stabbing at James Smith Cree Nation, and to Rome for the funeral of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. Throughout her career, Butts has also covered a wide range of breaking news and major events, including provincial and federal elections, the Fredericton mass shooting in 2018, and Hurricane Dorian.

Since joining the CTV News team in 2014, Butts has served in multiple roles including anchor, reporter, and morning host at local stations across Canada including CTV Barrie and CTV Atlantic.

Canadians can continue to connect with CTV News to access all the comprehensive news they need by visiting CTVNews.ca, subscribing to the organization’s daily newsletters, and by downloading the official CTV News app.
