Cult UK Hit BEING HUMAN Comes to Canada Exclusively on SPACE, August 23

A vampire, a werewolf and a ghost move into a house together. No, this is not a set up to a punchline. It’s the premise of BEING HUMAN, one of sci-fi’s most critically acclaimed series, and premiering in Canada on Monday, Aug. 23 at 9 p.m. ET, only on SPACE. Beginning with two, back-to-back episodes, SPACE viewers get a crash course on the dark British drama with daily airings from Monday to Friday at 9 p.m. SPACE then reboots the entire season with weekly airings starting Thursday, Sept. 16 at 10 p.m. ET, followed immediately each week by SPACE’s flagship genre news and entertainment program, INNERSPACE. SPACE premieres the eight-episode second season of BEING HUMAN, Thursday, Oct. 28 at 10 p.m. ET. Viewers hooked on escaping the ordinary can plug into spacecast.com for BEING HUMAN episodes and webisodes on demand.

As Canada braces for the next supernatural phenomenon, US and UK viewers are already under its spell. In the UK, Season 1 of BEING HUMAN achieved consistently high ratings on BBC’s digital channel BBC Three, averaging 726,433 viewers. In the US, BEING HUMAN well outperformed the BBC America 3rd Quarter primetime average being seen in 316,000 households, 145% more than the 3Q average, by 419,000 total viewers.

Canada, meet BEING HUMAN.

A smart and sexy, six-part, one-hour drama, BEING HUMAN follows the lives of three, twenty-somethings living double lives in Bristol as a werewolf, a vampire and a ghost. The series follows the trio as they do their best to live normal lives despite their strange and dark secrets. But with unwelcome intruders and rumblings about an impending revolution from the vampire underworld, the only thing they may be able to rely on in their heightened world is each other.

Meet George:

Russell Tovey plays the lovable George who battles with a double identity as a mild-mannered and geeky hospital porter who once a month, transforms into a flesh-hungry, predatory werewolf.

Meet Mitchell:

Aidan Turner plays the good-looking and laid-back Mitchell who, in contrast to George, has the gift of the gab and an easy confidence with the ladies. He is also a blood-sucking vampire struggling with going cold-turkey from the blood he craves.

Meet Annie:

Completing the flat-share trio is Annie, played by Lenora Crichlow. Annie is a talkative ghost who lacks self-confidence and is desperate for company. Annie is still pining after her fiancé, whom she was due to marry before the fatal accident that left her with her ghostly affliction. He also happens to be the landlord of their flat.

In the premiere episode, the three unlikely housemates discover the difficulties of living in the human world. Vampire Mitchell struggles to repress his desire for blood, ghost Annie is confronted by another ghost from her past and werewolf George looks for a place he can undergo his transformation in safety. At first glance things seem to be positive and ‘normal’, but it’s not long before their supernatural conditions catch up with them.

In Episode 2, George is shocked when he meets another werewolf, Tully (Dean Lennox Kelly, Shameless). Tully is the opposite of George as he’s perfectly content being a werewolf. He wants to teach George how to enjoy himself, but George just can’t accept what he’s become and is disgusted by Tully’s attitude. Against George’s wishes, Mitchell invites Tully to stay at the house but he soon becomes the housemate from hell.

The third season of BEING HUMAN as well as the premiere season of a US adaptation of the series, also titled BEING HUMANwill premiere on SPACE in 2011.
