EXPLODING SUN Consumes Space During a Special Two-Part Movie Event, Beginning June 10

Earth faces the ultimate threat in the special two-part movie event EXPLODING SUN, premieringMonday, June 10 and Monday, June 17 at 9 p.m. ET on Space. Starring David James Elliott (JAG), Julia Ormond (MAD MEN), and Anthony Lemke (LOST GIRL), EXPLODING SUN follows the historic space launch of the Roebling Clipper, the first private passenger space plane which is set to make history when it flies around the moon and back in mere hours. With the world watching, a sudden spike in solar radiation sends the ship and its passengers straight towards the Sun, and ultimatelytriggers a massive solar storm that could end all life on Earth.

ExplodingSunWith only two days to save Earth from destruction, Dr. Craig Bakus (Lemke), the astrophysicist who oversaw the launch, and Commander Don Wincroft (Elliott), a decorated NASA astronaut and former fighter pilot, are forced to put aside their differences. Former best friends, Don is now married to Craig’s ex-wife and their old rivalries are brought to the forefront when the mission derails and Don is put in charge. At odds, out of options, and with the fate of mankind hanging in the balance, Craig and Don struggle to put their past behind them.

Meanwhile, the families of the civilians on the ship are forced to watch and hope. The civilian cargo includes Simone Mathany (Jane Wheeler, Journey to the Center of the Earth), the wife of the U.S. President; Peter Roebling (Bruce Dinsmore, ARTHUR), the creator of the civilian space program; Denise Balaban (Mylène Dinh-Robic, THE LISTENER), a systems analyst; Jose Hernandez (Luis Oliva, PROVIDENCE), who won a spot on the ship in a lottery; and Alan Elias (John Maclaren, BEING HUMAN), a world-renowned humanitarian, who left his wife Joan (Ormond) at their refugee relief camp in Afghanistan. For Joan, things become even more difficult when the camp’s communications are knocked out from the solar storm. Navigating an aggressive environment and an amoral warlord, Joan does what she must to save as many people as possible during the crisis.

EXPLODING SUN also stars Natalie Brown (BITTEN) as Don’s wife Cheryl Wincroft, and Alexandre Weiner (BLUE MOUNTAIN STATE) as communications technician Reggie Walker.

Produced by Muse Entertainment and Sonar Entertainment, Michael Prupas (THE KENNEDYS) and Joel S. Rice (WHO IS SIMON MILLER?) are Executive Producers. Irene Litinsky (BEING HUMAN) is producer, Jeffrey Schechter (OVERRULED!) is writer, and Michael Robison (NIKITA) is director.
