Space Over the Moon About Audience Growth in 2013

Since its re-launch in March 2013, Space has been enjoying a meteoric rise in viewers and rankings, data from BBM Canada confirms. In just nine months, Space has jumped five spots to rank #6 on the list of Top 10 Canadian entertainment specialty channels. Among A25-54 it climbed five spots to the #4 position, jumped four spots to #7 with W18-49, and gained five spots to #10 with T12-17. Overall, since March 2013, Space has experienced a 19% growth in total viewers, a 36% growth among F18-34, and a whopping 45% growth among T12-17.*

A big part of Space’s success in 2013 can be attributed to its signature series including the globally-acclaimed Space original series ORPHAN BLACK, the iconic DOCTOR WHO, and fan favourite FACE OFF.

Synching up with Space’s rebrand in March 2013, was the hotly anticipated premiere of Space’s original thriller, ORPHAN BLACK. The Season 1 premiere was the #4 series debut of all time on Space, and throughout its run was the most-watched Space original series in history, making Space the #1 specialty network in its time slot (Saturdays at 9 – 10 p.m. ET) among W25-54 and A18-34.** ORPHAN BLACK returns to Space with Season 2, April 19 at 9 p.m. ET.

March 2013 also saw the return of one Space’s marquee series DOCTOR WHO to its Saturday night time slot (8-9 p.m. ET), making the second half of Season 7 the most-watched program in Space history, and Space the #1 specialty network across all key demos in its timeslot.**

Fan favourite FACE OFF experienced a stellar fifth season being the most-watched season in series’ history. Throughout its run, Space was the #1 Canadian specialty network in its timeslot (Tuesdays at 9 – 10 p.m. ET) for W25-54, A/W18-49, A/W18-34, and A18-24.

While 2013 was an exciting year for Space, 2014 promises to continue the trend. Space’s newest original series BITTEN, airing Saturdays at 9 p.m. ET, launched with a bang premiering to 414,000 viewers on Jan. 11, making it the #1 Space original series debut for A18-49, and the #1 entertainment specialty program of the day among total viewers.***
