Bigger. Bolder. Better. DISCOVERY CHANNEL HD Launches Today

With a Fall schedule driven by adrenaline-packed adventure, edge-of-your-seat engineering, mind-blowing triumphs of technology and awe-inspiring natural wonder, Discovery Channel’s standard definition broadcast channel can hardly contain it! Today marks the much-anticipated launch of Discovery Channel HD.

The channel is initially available across Canada on Bell Satellite TV, channel 1602; and Bell Fibe TV, channel 1520.

The new 24-hour channel mirrors the full Discovery Channel schedule – now offered in captivating high definition and Dolby 5.1 audio. The explosions will be bigger, the beasts more ferocious, and the expanses of our planet – and beyond! – will be more awe-inspiring and thrilling than ever before.

“Our signature mix of immersive entertainment is perfectly suited to the enhanced viewing experience HD delivers,” said Paul Lewis, President and General Manager, Discovery Channel. “Our viewers have been clamouring to see their favourite programs in HD, and now their time has come with the launch of Discovery Channel HD.”

Discovery Channel HD arrives just in time for the new Fall season, beginning with the relaunch of DAILY PLANET on Aug. 29 in an all-new HD format. In the coming weeks, watch for two new original Canadian series: NATURAL BORN DEALERS (Sept. 12) which follows a father-and-son treasure hunting team as they scour pawnshops – and even dumps – to find vintage gems for their upscale clientele; and PRANK SCIENCE (Sept. 19), where two hosts reveal truly surprising science through hilarious, never-before-seen street-level prank experiments. Also coming in September, SWAMP BROTHERS (Sept. 13) reveals an exotic and swampy world behind Florida’s largest reptile sanctuary and exotic reptile dealership. Appointment viewing at its best, the “Discovery Presents” specials block on Sundays and Thursdays will be even more captivating in high definition with compelling new specials, including additional instalments in the CURIOSITY series, “Is There a Parallel Universe?” (Sept. 8), and “How Will the World End?” (Sept. 18); plus the top-level insiders look at the Bin Laden takedown in TARGETING BIN LADEN (Sept. 8).

Discovery Channel HD’s schedule wouldn’t be complete without all-new seasons of fan-favourite series, now available in high definition simulcast, including MYTHBUSTERS, AFTER THE CATCH, MAYDAY, SONS OF GUNS, HOW IT’S MADE and more.

For more information about adding Discovery Channel HD to their television package, viewers should contact their service provider.
