“I didn’t do it.” More than just a legal strategy, in some cases, this statement is actually true. Since the introduction of DNA forensics into the criminal justice system, more than 300 sentences have been overturned in the U.S. and Canada. Premiering Friday, July 6 at 10 p.m. ET/11 p.m. PT, Discovery Channel presents I DIDN’T DO IT, a Canadian original production that exposes the untold story and the personal toll of wrongful convictions, one gut-wrenching case at a time. Narrated by Chris Noth (The Good Wife, Law & Order), I DIDN’T DO IT looks beyond the investigations to reveal the harrowing personal stories and long-awaited redemptions of those brought down by an imperfect justice system.
This six-part series exposes the dark side of a system that imprisons thousands of innocent people, telling their stories through re-enactments and interviews; and featuring wide-ranging points of view including those of the accused, investigating officers, jurors and prosecuting attorneys. A victim of a different sort, after their exoneration they must pick up the shreds of their life after spending years in prison – with a ripple effect that extends to their families, colleagues, community and beyond. And throughout each episode, the desperate search continues for the real perpetrator.
Highlights from the first episodes of I DIDN’T DO IT include:
