Conviction Overturned. I DIDN’T DO IT Premieres July 6 on Discovery Channel

“I didn’t do it.”  More than just a legal strategy, in some cases, this statement is actually true. Since the introduction of DNA forensics into the criminal justice system, more than 300 sentences have been overturned in the U.S. and Canada.  Premiering Friday, July 6 at 10 p.m. ET/11 p.m. PT, Discovery Channel presents I DIDN’T DO IT, a Canadian original production that exposes the untold story and the personal toll of wrongful convictions, one gut-wrenching case at a time. Narrated by Chris Noth (The Good Wife, Law & Order), I DIDN’T DO IT looks beyond the investigations to reveal the harrowing personal stories and long-awaited redemptions of those brought down by an imperfect justice system.

This six-part series exposes the dark side of a system that imprisons thousands of innocent people, telling their stories through re-enactments and interviews; and featuring wide-ranging points of view including those of the accused, investigating officers, jurors and prosecuting attorneys. A victim of a different sort, after their exoneration they must  pick up the shreds of their life after spending years in prison – with a ripple effect that extends to their families, colleagues, community and beyond. And throughout each episode, the desperate search continues for the real perpetrator.

Highlights from the first episodes of I DIDN’T DO IT include:

I DIDN’T DO IT:  “Ray Krone: Twice Bitten”

Fri., July 6 at 10 p.m. ET/11 p.m. PT

When Phoenix bartender Kim Ancona is found murdered in a bathroom, the investigation focuses on a bite mark found on her breast. Police quickly close in on Ancona’s rumoured boyfriend, Ray Krone, whose crooked teeth are deemed a match to the victim’s wound. But Krone is innocent. Sentenced to death for a crime he didn’t commit, his only hope lies in the efforts of a long-lost cousin to uncover new evidence that will set him free.

I DIDN’T DO IT:  “Ronald Cotton: Shadow of Doubt”

Fri., July 13 at 10 p.m. ET/11 p.m. PT

College student Jennifer Thompson wakes one night to find a rapist by her bed. During the brutal attack she vows to remember what he looks like, and after a daring escape she identifies Ronald Cotton to police. Cotton is given a life sentence for the assault, but he’s innocent.  And when he finds himself locked up with the real rapist, he must decide between a new campaign for freedom, or killing the man for whose crimes he’s been serving time.

I DIDN’T DO IT was commissioned by and produced for Discovery Channel Canada and Investigation Discovery U.S. by Toronto-based Lively Media.
