Thrilling Special Event EXPEDITION UNKNOWN: EGYPT LIVE Airs Only on Discovery, April 7

The gripping adventure series EXPEDITION UNKNOWN is coming exclusively to Discovery. Hosted by renowned explorer Josh Gates, the series arrives on Discovery on Sunday, April 7 with the special two-hour live event, EXPEDITION UNKNOWN: EGYPT LIVE, followed by the official premiere of the series’ 10-episode fifth season on Wednesday, April 10

With unprecedented access to one of the country’s most mysterious archeological sites, EXPEDITION UNKNOWN: EGYPT LIVE is a special two-hour event airing live on Discovery and Discovery Science on Sunday, April 7 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. Joined by world-renowned Egyptologist Dr. Zahi Hawass and secretary-general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities of Egypt Mostafa Waziri, Gates takes viewers through a network of underground tombs and opens a sealed, ancient sarcophagus for the very first time. Audiences will see the inner chambers of an excavation site, where archeologists recently uncovered a network of underground tunnels and tombs with 40 mummies believed to be part of the noble elite.

The massive underground complex is a treasure trove of antiquities, all laying undisturbed for thousands of years. There are several chambers yet to be explored, and many more discoveries to be revealed, including a limestone sarcophagus. The identity of the mummy inside has been a mystery for possibly 3,000 years, until now.

Following the epic two-hour live event, Gates continues his investigation of the world’s most famous unsolved stories when EXPEDITION UNKNOWN makes its Discovery debut Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT beginning April 10. The 10-episode one-hour new season follows Gates as he takes viewers on an exhilarating expedition around the world to uncover historic mysteries and archaeological puzzles. From following in the footsteps of the real Indiana Jones to learn the truth behind the fabled Crystal Skull of Doom, to diving the Great Lakes in search of the Holy Grail of lost American shipwrecks, The Griffon, Gates embarks on heart-pounding adventures in search of the world’s most important relics.

Then, continuing the quest to solve the world’s greatest mysteries, MUMMIES UNWRAPPED joins Discovery’s Wednesday night lineup, beginning April 17 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. The all-new series sees host and acclaimed Egyptologist Ramy Romany guide viewers around the world, investigating the spellbinding secrets of the most fascinating burial sites on Earth. From ancient Egyptian tombs and Mayan mass graves, to hidden crypts and even the disputed remains of Abraham Lincoln’s assassin, John Wilkes Booth, Romany seeks to unravel the fascinating origin of each mummy and the life that once was. With the help of emerging, technologies, MUMMIES UNWRAPPED introduces new theories about how ancient civilizations once lived and died, and shines a light on what, if any, mystical forces or supernatural phenomena may be at work.
