As ETALK Joins E!, Ratings Climb for Canada’s Most-Watched Entertainment Program

In advance of ETALK anchoring CTV’s new E! specialty service, Canada’s entertainment leader has become even stronger this Fall. ETALK now not only delivers bigger audiences than ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT CANADA, but ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT as well. Meanwhile, ETALK has delivered some of its largest audiences ever this Fall, as it continues to gain momentum leading into the launch of E! on November 29.

A snapshot of the first few weeks of November show that in a head- to-head battle at 7 p.m. against ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT, ETALK is now consistently drawing larger audiences than the aging American entertainment veteran, especially among younger viewers.

ETALK 605,000 109,000 210,000 244,000
ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT 517,000 64,000 157,000 181,000

And the momentum continues. Since this season’s September launch, more and more viewers have tuned into ETALK to get their entertainment news fix. In September, ETALK averaged 458,000 viewers. In October that number swelled to 501,000 and November is off to an outstanding start averaging 605,000 to date. The series has also been achieving record audiences, including an incredible 702,000 viewers on Nov. 5, which places it among the top-rated episodes in the show’s history.

“As the originators of the format in Canada, our priority has always been capturing audiences through breaking news and exclusive content from a distinctly Canadian perspective,” said Morley Nirenberg, Director of Production/Executive Producer. “As we approach our historic tenth season and begin airing on E!, it’s great news that more and more Canadians are responding to our efforts.”

Overall, ETALK audiences have climbed 3.5% over last season to a half-million viewers (499,000) each weeknight at 7 p.m. on CTV. Meanwhile, ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT CANADA has decreased 5% to 382,000, while ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT has dropped 11% to 571,000 viewers.

Hosted by Ben Mulroney and Tanya Kim, ETALK is Canada’s most-watched entertainment newsmagazine. From the Oscars®, the Golden Globes®, and the Emmys®, to the JUNO Awards and The Giller Prize, ETALK is front-and-centre delivering up-to-the minute news in film, television, music and more. Celebrating both homegrown talent and international stars, ETALK became Canada’s first daily Canadian entertainment newsmagazine when it launched in 2002. ETALK airs weeknights at 7 p.m. ET (check local listings) on CTV and at 6 p.m. ET and 11:30 p.m. ET on Star!
