In the peaceful, rural town of College State, Pennsylvania, things are not as picture-perfect as they may seem. Premiering Sunday, July 21 at 8 p.m. ET/10 p.m. PT on Investigation Discovery, the compelling one-hour special TELLING AMY’S STORY delves into a painful, yet eye-opening case of domestic violence. While the community is safe – boasting a relatively low crime rate – people’s homes are not. The College State police department points out that the majority of homicides committed in the community have been directly related to domestic violence. Hosted by actress and advocate Mariska Hargitay (LAW AND ORDER SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT) and told by Detective Deirdri Fishel, TELLING AMY’S STORY follows the timeline of a domestic violence homicide that occurred on November 8, 2001.
Amy McGee’s parents, co-workers, law enforcement officers, and court personnel share their perspectives on what happened to McGee in the weeks, months, and years leading up to her death. Working backwards from the moment her life ended, Detective Fischel works tirelessly in an attempt to highlight some of the clues and warning signs that may have helped save McGee’s life. By taking a closer look at this specific case of domestic violence, Fischel and Hargitay hope to prevent such tragic outcomes by spreading awareness and promoting a message of hope among all communities affected by domestic violence.
